I know Gerrez will get on me for this but.............. that is not what we spent 35 million for!!!! He was bought to be our number 9 plain and simple and he is not, and with Rodgers at the helm don't think he ever will be.
Rodgers won't use him though. No matter if we can use him... Rodgers won't. Crazy thing is... he was beginning to play well for us... perhaps not £35mil well... or even close... but he was doing OK. But if Rodgers won't use him he is worth nothing to us. Honestly though now... he's below Suarez and Sturridge in pecking order... looks like we're sniffing around more attacking players. His wages are too high for someone who is only going to be thrown on as a bodyguard to Suarez at Stoke or used seldomly.
Along with getting £50m for the Torres donkey. What a right old f***k-up, true enough. £15m profit to make him what was being described as "unplayable" by season's end, with demands he replace Rooney in the Euros. Pth, pathetic management, that's what that is. And all that without FSG realising the credit card had gone. And to think fans were demanding we spend £24m on Darren Bent instead. Fans should be running transfers, that's for sure, with you as chairman.
They're turning a profit and have several players who could walk into your team. I think most Geordies are probably happy with that.
haha, Carroll was an awful piece of business. Linking the deal to the Torres sale price is a total red herring. The simple facts are that you pissed away £35M on an injured CF in January! You should have banked the cash & brought in a loan striker that window, giving you a few months to identify a quality replacement - as it was, Carroll only made 7 appearances, scoring 2 goals before the season ended. He could be the dictionary definition of the term 'panic buy'.
Who would have thought mention of King Kenny mistake would bring MFG out. If you want to play the 15 mil card, we spent that much money on a player who had a decent first half of the season. on a half a season in the prem how can you tell how a player will do? Still think it was crazy and rushed, we had Suarez and should have just used him along with Kuyt. Wasn't Carroll injured for a massive part of that initial half a season for us as well?
Not really because we are talking about the club in a financial sense so, from FSG's perspective, the £35m we spent does come into it. I only argue against mentioning the £35m when talking about Carroll's qualities and what he can offer the team. For example, someone may say "he should be contributing more to the team for £35m" but is that fair? Its not Carroll's fault the club paid such a stupid amount! Judge a player on HIS abilities and HIS abilities alone, what the club did or didn't pay for a player shouldn't come into it. To put a slightly different twist on it so to show my comments aren't just biased and an attempt to protect the club I love, I would say exactly the same about Michu. If they were in the same team would you expect someone to say he shouldn't play ahead of Carroll because he only cost £2m compared to the £35m we spent on Carroll? Or would you say Michu should play because he his performing better and proving (at this moment in time or not) to be a better player?
£25M for a guy who spends as much time injured as fit . I will eat ur "chip shop" if that happens, MA didnt get too good a deal off Enrique, and he didnt do to well off Barton either, who was ur best player when he got rid PLAYERS,have ALL the power in football, not chairman, if HBA wants to go he will go...end of,and for a LESS than £15m IMO
I think at the time Torres was far from being a Ferrari! He may have been more of a high mileage Porsche who's big ends were going and then broke down completely for the new owner. But I agree that Carroll was more a fiesta.
Almighty **** up to buy him for so much but a worse **** up to loan him out then a worse **** up to spend £11 million on his replacement who's ****ing useless. Now hit me with the "yeah but Carroll doesn't fit our system" argument.... ...because Borini doesn't either. He's looked far worse than Carroll and done absolutely nothing to suggest he should be anywhere near a Prem team let alone a top half one. Waste of a further £11mill. I can name 8 games this year where I guarantee Carroll would have given us an edge. How many games will Borini ever influence? None is the answer to that. If we get nothing reasonable in terms of offers for Carroll (which we won't) then make use of the big lump.
If anything, it's worse. If you manage to sell a porche or a lesser car of that amount... You'd buy a Ferrari!
The whole thing has been a **** up from start to finish. All this "we valued carrol at 15m less than Torres is, and always has been, ****ing idiocy. You should sell any player for as much as you can get, and you shouldn't sign anyone for more than you think they are worth. The powers that be should have looked at the Torres and carrol deals in isolation The argument that we needed A striker there and then is also rubbish imo, AC was Crocker when we signed him and we knew it, and we had just signed Suarez, should have waited til summer. Danny Graham is a similar sort of player to AC, he seemed to fit into BRs style fine enough. Was Dempsey a suitable replacement for a striker? No, he wasn't. By the way, is anyone too bothered we missed out on him and Sig? We are where we are. I mist admit, I thought AC looked good when he got a run of games, esp in the FA cup final. If we can't sell him, keep hold of him and use him. He's not a 35 mil striker, but he's not **** either.
Had Carroll not been signed, how many of you lot would be screaming about FSG pocketing a ****-load of cash from the Torres sale? Was he a bad signing? Yes. Was he given as much time as other players to improve? No. The way his future has been handled is a joke, openly stating we don't want him has just pushed everybody's valuation down.
Unfortunately thats the world we live in nowadays. Everyone has a voice and everyone has an opinion, if you go on these forums as a wum you will always find something to pick up on. Its the reason irritates me when opposition posters say "all Liverpool fans", its such an arrogant comment
"haha, donga has one bad, bad obsession with the 'injustice' of the St Suarez case. I reckon he knows every word of the 115 page report verbatim. " Yes Bird, I do.
I like Borini. I have no idea why, because he's been quite **** everytime he's stepped on the pitch for us but I still like him and think he could become a good player.
