Groan. Pull that stake out of my heart.
Why the **** did I ever fall in love with my club?

It's like having a right twat for a son. You love him but he continually let's you down & never fails to disappoint.
Yet, that said, countless fathers will continue to heap this misery onto their offspring as I indeed did with mine.

I honestly can't see us ever amounting to anything worthwhile.

no point shooting for the sun if you only have a pea shooter, trying to emulate us would be a good intermediate target, after all, we are in Europe and have some pretty solid, profitable foundations in place ...

Well, I've said on here before that I'm a naturally pessimistic man. I find it saves me a lot of heartache.
50 years of abject failure tends to do that to a person once you drag your head out of the clouds.

I've seen a lot of false dawns, far, far too many so I'll believe it when I see it marra.
My only hope now is that those below us keep getting beat as I can't see any more than another 3 points for us this season.

Sid posted the current form table the other day. Aston Villa were second I think & everyone below us are above us on current form.
Although Martin One'Nill was not my first choice I genuinely thought he could achieve something here.

Pessimist yes, but also a realist.

Martin O’Neill has insisted he’s still up for the fight as Sunderland boss.

The Ulsterman says he’s faced *accusations that his side is not performing “like a typical Martin O’Neill side” and has now answered questions about his “downbeat” demeanour.

O’Neill bristled at suggestions his heart is no longer in it, saying his “enthusiasm for the game” still burns brightly.

And he reassured Sunderland fans that he has his sleeves rolled up ready for what could be a relegation fight.

The Black Cats, who entertain champions-elect Manchester United on Saturday, are just four points above the drop zone and have just learned captain Lee Cattermole and top scorer Steven Fletcher will miss the rest of the season because of injury.

With no wins in their last seven games, they are desperate to restore some momentum.

O’Neill’s recent body-language and comments that his side “lacked true real ability” sparked suggestions that he has lost his mojo compared to his feisty self in his previous jobs.

In reality, his words and deeds are more a reflection of the dire form the Wearsiders are in, and a realism in his thinking.

But he’s pledged to tackle the run in with “gusto and determination”, and said: “I am what I am. If you are expecting me to step in to a press conference after performing in the manner we did against Norwich and be jocular then you would tell me I needed my head examined.

Aye, only because Ashley has temporarily written off the £300m debt he is owed from buying you? That's forgotten by everyone.

If the bank did the same to my mortgage I'd be well off too.

Trouble is my finances are real world not football world.

Yes you are currently in the **** and have some hard games coming up. MON hasn't been the success we were all expecting and his transfer record has been hit and miss.

However. You aren't going down - i genuinely don't think you'll be in the bottom 3 - you'll probably get something from us in the derby because you need it more than us (hopefully we will be on 36 having beaten Fulham) and wouldn't be suprised if you get a win in a controversial game. You then have a nice set of May fixtures to get out of the hole at the last minute if required.

Reading and QPR look dead so you just need either Villa or Wigan to mess up plus you're only one win away from mid-table.

MON will turn it around in the summer, give him another year. He's a very good manager and at the moment who else do you see coming in anyway? Don't be like how we used to be, new managers all the time gets you nowhere.

Please get off the fence and say what you really feel Billy!

I agree but think O'Neill is trying to remove some pressure by saying this. If he comes out and says he thinks we're going down (as most of us do)! He looks like a fool.

Sometimes hiding behind a white lie is better than facing the truth!

Very funny Billy, got to agree as well stating the obvious as one lad said to boost the season ticket sales as they are plummeting. My brother is not renewing his or the boys this time around either and, that seems to be the message that Short has finally got a hold of.
Nice PR exercise from the club but, it has fallen on deaf ears.
The only thing I agree with is we will stay up the rest is just total BS.
