Player-Manager..... don't think it could work at the top top level these days, too much power with the players and trying to go from chum to boss is a very strange situation.

  2. Anyone else used to own the PC player-manager game? I think it was endorsed by the king too

Suarez is a fantastic player.... think he would be even better as player manager!

"OK... guys... Gerrard I want you to stay on your feet more... you're embarrassing us. Johnson stop calling Terry 'whitey'. Sterling stop punching people you might get sent off... Agger, you sick bastard, stop biting Neville you will get sick... even tape worms won't touch him...

Leave it all to me guys."

There seems to be a trend of appointing young people who have been involved in coaching since a young age now.

The likes of Benitez, Mourinho, Villas-Boas, Rodgers, Stramaccioni etc. Maybe people are less likely to appoint players with no experience when these type of people are about?

The championship? He did say he wouldn't mind dropping down a league.

Thought he meant leaving Everton but evidently not ;)

Think its a dying breed. Giggs, Scholes, Gerrard and Lamps are the closest England have to that, and even those 4 I don't believe have the tactical knowhow to succeed. Sure they are masters at the technical side of English football, but they're better at following directions. I don't think they would be able to lead a side to the double for example. There is too much involved in the job of the manager nowadays.

Most of these players by the way, seem to be technical players. Kenny, Chelsea's lot, Davids, Souness. Perhaps that's what made them succeed - they knew to play intelligently.

in case anyone failed to notice most player manager are/were total muck!

i mean lets face it players who are senior enough and are chosen are not common.... and frankyl a club needs to be in a state to end up with one.... sorry kenny but you got the job after ***an cos why..... hmmmmm..... any real succession should be done over a period of years, groomed and experienced coaches need to take over not johnny come lately players. I'd like to think, but know its not the case, that LFC could create a set of coaches where the next guy is clear and commanding players already... lets see carra in the youth system next year, then moving up to reserves etc. give it 5 years and there'll be no-one he played with in the firsts and keep stepping up.

OH and if we sack rodgers like we sacked hodgson and then kenny after rafa and we lose the entire coaching structure we're MAD. Say anchelotti comes in.. why can't marsh and carra for example step into his structure.

anyway.... gerrard never struck me as either a captain, nor leader of men really and certainly i've never thought he'd be a manager. there's just something that's lacking in him. he only leads by being a great player (beckham like some might comment)

Scheoles i think is a hard sell for me too, even mroe than gerrard. he's an assistant manager max IMO.

Lampard is the type of self serving egotist that will do well in management but will screw over a few clubs.

  14. Modern day players are less likely to move into management IMO, they certainly not need the hassle or money that comes with it!

I agree with MITO in that Gerrard doesn't seem like the manager type, same goes for Scholes, Giggs and even Lampard. I think Terry and Carragher will both look to move that way though. Having said that, I always thought Shearer would too...

Neville (G) would make a good manager, I reckon, Carra too some day. Don't see any of the other of 'that' England crop getting far along the managerial path.

  16. Do we one day envisage a Jamie Carragher managed Liverpool taking on a Gary Neville managed Man Utd...?

nope. neville has done his thing now. you cannot step out of sky to become a manager. no credibillity cos you've laid yourself bare to all fans.

shearer bottled it IMO, he never showed much inclination to work his way up and IMO this is why most of todays crop will not make managers at the top. you won't see a terry going and doing what adams or mcallister or heaven forfend nigel clough did.

I think if carragher wants it he should be put in at the lowest level of lfc coaching and allowed time to work up by doing badges, courses and going accross europe. got to uefa training seminars, exchange views, build links, go to barca or real or bayern for a week.. etc... don't for the love of god pitch in day one knowing phooking nothing and expect to succeed.

life lesson. players know nothing at 35 about management. same as kids of 17 know nothing about being footballers. you'd not make stelring club captain would you... so why make a guy manager before he's learn his job?

ince, mcallister, adam... there are a long list of guys reaching for jobs too soon.

  18. Shearer kept saying he wanted to one day become a manager but that he only wanted to manage Newcastle (or Blackburn, possibly Southampton although I never heard that) so was slightly restricting his chances. After his short stint with the Geordies he said he'd got the managers bug and that he wanted another job asap. Worked out well eh <laugh>

It was rumoured only last week that Jamie's already lined up for Sky for next season alongside Neville...

I think Gary's come out from the job well tbh, he's shown he's intelligent and knowledgeable about the game whilst he's training up with the England setup. Even most Liverpool fans believe he's a good pundit when we'd have laughed him out the studio a year ago. He'll be a manager.

I can't imagine carrgher spouting off on sky. he'd be laughed off... not really but still.

i just think nevilles got it cushy and like grey he could be sitting there for years cos lets face it he's got the money so its not like he's a guy to go for one big contract. sky = safe easy money. plus the mancs will never forgive him seeing he actually wasn't totally biased against us! <laugh>
