Love quizzes...I run one last night for Oxfam in Oxford...raised £500 .... My two favourite questions from last night were What anatomical feature appeared on Barbie dolls for the first time as late as the year 2000? (Keep it clean please!) In which movie comedy would you hear the line: 'This is an occasion for genuinely tiny knickers'?
The answer to the Barbie question is her navel (and not what one woman said last night....a brain) Yes Col I am a quiz nerd...knew that one...standard quiz question (for nerds)....the man who invented subbuteo was a bird watcher and wanted to call his newly invented footy game "hobby", he wasn't allowed to so he called it Subbuteo (his favourite bird of prey was the northern hobby, Falco subbuteo) ... Had to google most of the rest but knew the Tempest one...Shakespeare saw him self as Prospero, and the Eleanor crosses too...I have written a similar question myself. Just take it I am a nerd
It was Sku that I was doubting whether he knew about subbuteo. I knew that, although the Latin names of birds of prey are not one of my strengths. We had a beautiful Hobby roosting in a churchyard up the road from us a couple of years ago. We used to watch it swoop out from the church roof and hunt down the flying beetles, dragonflies and swallows. They're a lovely looking bird. Summer visitors.
It's one of those facts that someone shared with me - the very same story that Beth alluded to - I just added the Mark Falco twist to put it into a QPR context. I don't know that many more latin names - though we had a fantastic book when we were kids that showed disappearing wildlife and featured the Indris - latin name Indri Indri. Easy one to remember that one!
