Yes, it's a good day for NCFC. I am not as euphoric as some about it though, simply because it is exactly the sort of development I have been expecting and confidently predicting all along. A number of us have been pleading for people to be patient and adopt an "all in good time" attitude, rather than read too much into the here and now. This plea has fallen on several pairs of deaf ears. So pardon me if I chuckle at comments that suggest there has been a dramatic shift. There hasn't. We are on exactly the path that was laid out for us in the summer following relegation from the Championship, just making quicker progress than anyone anticipated. This signing simply reflects how far we have got and is an indication of what we can expect in due course.
Agree with this It is the correct progression at the right time showing good management which we have come to expect now. But Im still excited it is a massive signing for the club.
I really don't understand why you are being so pernickety. Hughton has had you playing, at times, dire football this season, yes? You have said you accept this as your target was to avoid relegation (although you can still survive playing nice football-see Swansea and Norwich of yesteryear). Now you have bought some serious quality, you would expect Hughton to stop playing the negative football because the team you are preparing should easily be mid-table. You say few people were talking about your dire negative football when you were on your 10 match unbeaten run, but results just paper over the cracks when playing poorly. Look at Stoke and Pulis now. (In no way saying Hughton's football is as bad as Pulis' but you get my gist) Obviously, this is a joyous day for Norwich City and the fans. I only came on here to add my congratulations but you seem intent on rejecting that. Apologies to the rest of the Norwich Board who just want to celebrate and I suggest Robbie, you do the same.
Well said Biily's Bicep and thanks for those kind words This is what one person (joker/optimist/?) said on the BBC comments page
totally agree robbie, like you i have been advocating evolution, not revolution. QPR have tried the latter and look where it has got them.
Billy, I have been celebrating virtually every day since Col Utd hammered us on the opening day of our League One season. I get your gist, but you don't get mine, so I'll say it again: "My original comment was aimed not at you Billy, but at those who have read into the recent poor games our entire future under Hughton's management". If you want to check out the context of my jibe, you need to read some of the other threads on here over the last several weeks.
A lot of papers are reporting that we fended off a last ditch attempt by Tottenham to sign him! An astonishing piece of business by DM and I'm sure that Hughton has some sort of personal charisma and charm that attracts players like this, credit to him.
It certainly pulls all the January wrangling with Celtic over Gary Hooper (who?) into sharp focus. Yaya Touré next
now looking forward to a cultivated midfielder that can make the side tick and provide chances for wolfie
So whats wrong with that comment exactly Robbiebb. If you read the line it actually says we will have to change IF he is going to score goals. I still think he will play play defensive, he just won't be able to sling long deep crosses into the box or focus on free kicks. I don't mind defensive football one bit, there's a time and a place for it, what I object to is Hughtons overkill of defensive football in situations that don't require it. If we play exactly as we do now he won't score any goals, and thats a simple fact, particularly on looking at the goals he's scored. Holt scored plenty last year because he had plenty of support, he's no different now to then, whats changed is the style of play. Where you see the necessity to play this overkill on defensive football, I do not, I have more faith in our players than you do.
Wow. What a signing. We seem to just keep on pushing on. McNally really is keeping the momentum going forwards! With the current board at the helm, I really wouldn't be surprised at what we could potentially achieve... We may have played less than pretty football at times this season, but we've also had some amazing games and results. Just need a couple of more results and then we can look forward to an interesting summer!
This is a really positive signing for Norwich City. Can see them challenging for a top six PL place in the next season or two If that does not deserve a then nothing does
It takes so long to navigate from there lowly board to our lofty position, should be with us in an hour or two
<hitsnailonheademoticon> I'm sure that nearly every fan wants us to be less defensive when we don't need to be. Fulham was there for the taking, but it seemed very few of the players were allowed to venture over the half-way line!!! Yet against Sunderland, we took the game to them, even with 10 men. Let's have more games like that please!!!!!
It's your use of the word "force", implying that Chris Hughton is being dragged kicking and screaming towards "a different playing policy"; whereas the signing of RVW is actually a statement by CH about the playing policy he is aiming at as he builds for the longer term. If the argument was just about playing strategy over the last couple of months, that's one thing; but you have consistently argued that the poor performances we've seen recently represent CH-style football full-stop and that as long as he stays, this is all we can expect. That is simply not the case, and the signing of RVW should silence any doubts.
What a fantastic signing! Even though its expenisve his age means he is an asset and if we sold him we would make a profit. Most exciting signing since I dont know when. Hopefully we sign a couple more good players in the summer to give him real support and help him get as many goals as possible. Great day for the club! Why not dream of top 6 next year now
