Exactly, it won't be long before Leyton Orient overtake spurs. Within 5 years Barnet will be above them. Within 10 years Dulwich Hamlet will be turning them over in the FA Cup.

Sorry just because you have a larger stadium does not men you will up your game and improve your position in the league. ON that basis NUFC should be up there at 3rd yearly, instead of being the concertina floating to top 4 one year and then fighting relegation the next. Whyare SPurs with 35k knocking on the door of CL for last 3 years?

Let's not forget, we (Arsenal) have the 2nd largest ground by the long way, yet have been going backwards for 5 years.

It is about the football people at the end of day, and the money men making decisions that support the best football people.

Also as an aside about WH getting the OS .... a lot of the whinging is anti-football so I dismiss it, as such people would rather see it go to waste. But it also shows that no serious investment in world class sport facilities can be made without football. Even the "worlds 3rd biggest sport event" (makes me laugh) the Rugby World Cup cannot on its own generate the sort capital expendiutre in infrastructure that even the European Championships attract. The RWC wnet to France in 2007 using teh grounds built for 98, they will be using our football grounbds in 2015, 2019 will use the grounds built in 2002 and wont go to Italy until Italy has had a Euro/WC to rebuild its crumbling grounds. Even the Champions Legue final in 2009 in Rome demanded significant CapEx to upgrade the ground .... and then the Rugby lot followed it.

I say this because people need to realise that you cannot stage big events without someone footing the bill, and then you need a plan to keep it utilised. Football is the only game in town. I feel proud that in London we have so many big clubs ... London truly is in my opinion the footrball capitla of the world for this reason. WH have no probklem filling 35,000 at Upton Park. I see them easily getting 40-45,000, hardly empty then.

Also, West Ham paying £2m per year .... for around 20 games per year, and have no say in what happens with teh ground the rest of the time. WH fill nor benefit from the events from the other 345 days of the year.

The real strength of our football is that even when big clubs get relegated they still get large crowds that the likes of cricket rugby and ..... dare I say athletics .... woukld die for.

I celebrate this decision. I understand why Leyton Orient are upset, but on the whole happier.

There's a reason Gold and Sullivan pushed for FFP and why QPR's owners are desperate for a new ground. FFP means restrictions on direct outside investment and greater expenditure for clubs with higher revenues. West Ham are going to almost double their revenue as matchday revenue will increase and so will they in terms of commercial value and sponsorship. That would put their expenditure on par with the likes of Spurs, Liverpool and Newcastle, they could go from making shrewd £3.5m signings to perhaps £10m/£15m/£20m signings. It also makes them an attractive proposition for overseas owners and players.

Whether it takes them above Spurs remains to be seen, but it will certainly cement their position as a top 10 club, as it will Newcastle

They have to get rid of Fat Sam first, if they want to make some progress. <ok>

Don't forget when Citeh moved to the council house they had to give any gate money recieved which was over the capacity of Maine Road (approx 35,000) to Manchester council. They may have got a stadium for **** all but they gained no extra revenue from the move.I do believe they have done a new deal with the council regarding money now though.

True Cym, but there has to be something fundementally wrong with the taxpayer paying £120m ish for a new stadium for a big event (Comm Games), then to foot the bill for it to be converted into a football stadium then for a bunch of Arab billionaires to buy the club and inherit a huge asset that someone else has paid for ?
Given their ridiculous resources evidenced by the sick sums they spent on winning the league, it wouldn't hurt for them to refund the taxpayer for the cost of their inherited asset - not gonna happen obviously but the chance for history to repeat itself exists...

Which is why they'll go after Redknapp if QPR go down.

I think somebody like Gus Poyet would be ideal for West Ham.

He'll only leave Brighton for 2 jobs, Chelsea and Tottenham.
I know the Brighton set up quite well and they're slowly building a serious club down there, doing it the right way as well.
Poyet signed a long term extension on his contract last year and genuinely believe he wants to see the job through at Brighton, not sure he'll ever be a big enough name for the Russian and AVB doing a decent job so for the moment both those jobs are out of reach, Brightons gain...

Every team, including Chelsea and Arsenal, are susceptible to losing their best players and not being able to sign the best players if they are out the top 4 for any length of time. Not just Liverpool and Spurs. All players are the same and if they wouldn't stay at LFC or Spurs coz no CL, then they wouldn't stay at Chelsea or Arsenal either.

There is no special circumstances or special character that Chelsea/Arsenal have that Spurs/Liverpool don't. They are all very similar size/status and its little variables like who is currently top 4 that separate them (this can change though obviously). All 4 clubs need to be in the top 4 regularly to be seen as bigger and better, and to attract and retain the best players. To think otherwise is naive at best.

Arsenal have been losing their best players year on year now and thats whilst they have still been in CL every year, you could argue they've even lost more of their best players than Liverpool in the last few years. If they do a Liverpool starting from this season they could be in real trouble attracting the very best players, just as Liverpool are now.

If in 5 years time the top 4 is Man U, Man C, Spurs, LFC Arsenal and Chelsea will struggle just like any of these teams would being starved of CL football. The only thing that Chelsea and Arsenal have going for themselves in this predicament as compared to Liverpool, Spurs, Everton, is that they have more money, but what use is that if the best players don't want to play for you as you're not in the CL? Plus, FFP may have neutralised Chelseas spending power and Arsenal may carry on not spending anything.

If you think Arsenal and Chelsea could cope better than Spurs and Liverpool without CL football you are not just wrong, you are deluded.

by then though Spurs will have their own bigger new stadium and Liverpool will have finished the expansion of Anfield to 65,000 so any advantage WHU would see from the new stadium, IF they could fill it week in, week out, would be negligible.

Lennon playing for United. He might be good but certainly not good enough for United. Or Arsenal for that matter!! Does he have a high opinion of himself?
