We shouldve scored at least 10. Defoe has a goal ruled out, which was a dubious decision, Defoe missed a couple of good chances, Sturridge missed a sitter, The Ox hit the bar early on, the keeper shouldve been sent off.....

    Stats: (San Marino - England)
    Possession: 17% - 83%
    Shots: 1 - 28
    On Target: 0 - 19
    Corners: 1 - 15
    Fouls: 11 - 5

England's Goal Difference is now +18.

    San Marino's is -24.

Baines MOTM for me. Defoe, Chamberlain and Young were also up there.

Yes, but what would happen if I married a Scottish woman and we had a kid, then moved back to England and had another kid? They'd both be eligible for both countries but I'd want them to play for different countries, and under Erik's rules bloodline would be ignored to go for place of birth so we'd both be saying it should be different countries. With footballers moving internationally so much there must be players who've got kids of different nationalities and they obviously have the advantage when growing up that they have access to the clubs to get noticed.

Oh that reminds me. In the British Isles the rule from FIFA is you can only represent a country if to find the bloodline you have to go as high as grandfather but residency and passport qualifications are allowed. As we share a passport the agreement within Britain is that no residency/passport qualifiers like Almunia would be taken on (Moving here as a kid and qualifying they're fine with, but not as an adult). The result of this is made quite laughable by the Kris Commons situation. He is a Scotland international thanks to his grandfather being Scottish. Him and both his parents are England born, as is the case with his wife and her parents. At the time he got his cap he was still playing in England, which meant there was a very real chance that he could be a Scotland international with kids who were ineligible to play for Scotland. (They'll probably be up there long enough as kids to be allowed now he's playing up there)

Am I right in saying that people from the Isle of Man can choose to play for ANY of the Home Nations? I think they should have their own football team (and I don't mean one of those ****ty ones that competes in 'the island games')

I'm guessing he got the stats from the BBC, who only provide possession stats for the last 5 or 10 minutes. They did have about 40% of the ball before the end TBF

Was Defoes disallowed goal offside? It was a square ball, could have sworn square balls aren't offside, Defoe was about 5 yards behind Young when he played it.

It was pleasing watching us be able to actually pass it through 11 men and score a couple, but I still think it was a pretty shambolic performance and anything less than 10 was unacceptable (are we Arsenal in disguise? We need to learn when to shoot!)

Wasn't Man U's record signing a record flop - Berbaflop?

Anyone that thinks Rooney isn't world class needs their eyes checking... he's thinking 2 steps ahead of any other playing in an England shirt.

    Bob:

Defoe looked like he was about 2 inches offside, and the ball was played forward to him - a tight call, but offside nevertheless

For the first 30 minutes, before we got our second, we were piss-poor. The passing was pretty shambolic and there wasn't even any attempt at an incisive pass. Far too many balls lumped forward, with 4'6" Defoe as target man. It was the kind of game I predicted (I'd had a fiver on 3-0 at 6/1 and another on 2-0 at 13/1). I know we English have a reputation for being arrogant, but I think it's fair to say that if you can't play through San Marino then you should give up the game altogether. The second goal killed it and you could see what little confidence they had evaporate. After that it was a case of 'how many'.

In the end it could - and probably should - have been a lot more. Their keeper should have been off after 15 minutes for a patent handball, we hit the bar, Sturridge missed an absolute sitter and Defoe had two fantastic chances. They're just the ones I can remember.

I've just google map'd San Marino, I'm confused. Is it a country inside Italy? They have a population of 32000.

Yeah, it's a bit like Andorra, or Luxembourg, or Monte Carlo. Just really a town/city with a bit of land around it that happens to be independent. The most famous thing to happen "in San Marino" is probably an event that didn't even happen there, and that would be Senna's death in the San Marino Grand Prix. (Imola is over the border in Italy)

    I've changed the possession stat.

    It was actually 17% - 83%.

Another stat was that Lampard's goal made him England's highest-scoring midfielder ever (bar Charlton, obviously).
