Seen Genesis twice (Foxtrot, Nursery Cryme era) when P Gabriel was the singer and PC on drums. He should have stayed on drums, poor singer imo.
Drummers are the heartbeat of any group (and that's a guitarist speaking here) Kenney Jones was a far better technical drummer than Keith Moon, who he replaced on Moons death but Moon was the epitome of what a Rock & Roll drummer is all about. Its far more than just technical stuff. Buddy Rich (mentioned earlier) is an all time great too. As a massive Jam fanatic I also have a huge warmth for Rick Buckler although he isnt anywhere on the top lists. Again, its about feeling and emotion not just technical ability.
PS - I think Phil Collins is a total tosser and he gets right in my ****ing pip. Cant stand the bloke and hearing his 'voice' makes my blood boil.
I saw Bad Co a couple of years ago with Simon on drums. Paul Rodgers voice can still raise the hairs on the back of your neck. One of rocks greatest vocalists.
Theres a few of us old b*stards on here judging by our musical preferences. Agree about Paul Rodgers mind.
John Bonham by a country mile the best ever! Neil Peart, Ian Paice, both right up there with Dave Grohl and the best of the rest - oh and Cozy Powell for sheer over the top entertaining drum solos !
As a drummer myself I agree with all those listed above but my top 5 are (in no particular order) Moonie, speaks for itself Budgie (Banshees) Jimmy Chamberlain (Smashing Pumpkins) Ronnie Viannucci (Killers) Steve Gadd Oh, nearly forgot, Clem Burke from Blondie. Btw even though he is now in his 60's tests prove he is as fit as any professional footballer because of his drumming.
cant leave roger taylor off this list
Agree, also love the 'Dream Sequence' off the flowers of evil album. Some of the off-beats are mind blowing..
Totally agree with this as well Cest, the lad was a prolific drummer and seemed synced with Bruce Foxtons brilliant bass playing..
There was a lad called Richard I used to play in a band with who was absolutely phenomenal. He had so much rhythm and was so cool and laid back - could correct any **** up the band made with a little drum fill and his Drum solo's were amazing!! And my mates band "Doyle", Brian does Moby Dick better than anyone I've seen live (I never saw Bonham live unfortunately)
Great Drummer but a **** of a person. Can I just throw in Topper Headon of The Clash look at how many drumming styles he covered from Punk, Reggae, Rockabilly, Soul etc.
John Bonham, Dave Grohl, Taylor Hawkins, Ginger Baker, Mitch Mitchell, Ben Johnston, Brad Wilk, Keith Moon
