Thought the Club was better than this. With our players earning tens of thousand of pounds we expect people with degrees to work for the Club for nothing . F*****g disgraceful and an abuse of the economic climate we live in. http://mobile.swanseacity.net/news/article/analysis-intern-725275.aspx?pd=63499373545000000
I agree with you. If a position requires a bachelors or master degree then they should be paid their worth. Why would they expect anybody of value to work full-time for free unless they were either stinking rich or too stupid to do the job anyway. It makes no sense. They also would like it if the applicants already had some knowledge of the software involved .... which makes knowing the software of little value to the person in the long run since the firms in the business only want you to work for free anyway.
wholeheartedly agree with you there PGF, an absolute insult. in my little media company i take on summer interns from the local art colleges for work experience, never longer than 1 month tho and i always pay their transport plus a tenner per day living exes. the internship the swans are offering is nothing of the sort, it's an 11 month fixed term short contract that requires grad or post-grad ability, that is unpaid. Shame on them!
tiz shocking what work does go unpaid these days>>>>>"SPECIAL POLICE"....they are fking special i can tell thee, walking the streets on theyre own getting paid nowt when the real police getting paid 30grand plus sit in a brand new police station..............................................................another one is i had a knock on the door the other day from the st johns ambulance asking for donations 2 keep up the running costs of this charity??...after some chat he admitted that it was needed(donations) more than ever because the nhs is being cut and the charity st johns ambulance is expected 2 take 40percent off the calls .....so basics of this is thwe government are making cuts but using people as free labour...........................................................another fking thing that pissed me is the fact they wanted people on the dole doing daily tasks like clean the streets or trim hedges>>>>>>hey wait there now these people aint working because there isnt any jobs available and what will happen 2 paid council workers who have a job picking litter up,do they now go on the dole and start doing it for nowt britain is fkd and we need 2 start the uprising NOW
its called work for the dole over here Aber (for long standind dole bludgers), do those crap jobs, join the army reserve or go to TAFE and get a diploma, nothing wrong with that, get the lazy dole bludgers off their arse and do something
This has really anoyed me. Our youth set up has been ****e for years and we are way behind Cardiff in this respect. Many of our local youngsters travel to Cardiff to train rather than go to ours. We then expect someone who has paid to go to University for three years (and hence has a large student debt) to work for sweet FA for 11 months. IF YOU PAY PEANUTS YOU GET MONKEYS. We should be actively recruiting the top students in the GB to come to the Club and they should be rewarded accordingly. To show the difference in attitudes, Spain has over 300 top coaches in the country and the majority coach at U11 football - to get it right from an early age. In Britain there are 30 top coaches and the majority coach in The Premiership. We have got it all arse backwards. I know this is not a coaching job, but the attitude is still the same - we are doing things on the cheap. What we need is to review our whole youth set up. Kick out anyone who can't think outside the box - and recruit bright individuals with new refreshing ideas - and reward them accordingly. RANT OVER.
I dont know if its anything to do with it, but part of our qualification for grade 2 academy is to have a certain number of paid staff/coaches only. I dont know if that has a top limit also?
Not sure Swim. But if someone is employed for 11 months then they deserve some cash to put food on the table, whatever the situation!
http://allthingsfootballonline.blogspot.co.uk/2012/12/the-pros-cons-of-internships.html Cant argue with that! However it is possible they are looking for someone who is set to graduate...a year out as part of their credits etc. I doubt it is as onesided as it seems. We have a wealth if sports grads/students who actually will be desperate for this opportunity. It is the industry standard sadly. After all, if anyone can actually get finally highly paid for doing something they love....is it really work? Unfortunately it is rife in the game. Above is a good article on the pros and cons
Its getting rife in all industries Swim and its unethical. My son had a year out from Uni and worked for a local firm and still got paid £15 grand for the year. All internships are an insult and we as a Club should not be doing it. Just because other Clubs do it does not mean we should sink to their level. How much are we getting for being in the Prem next year - £60 MILLION Arghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh - you've set me off on another rant now!
I thought it was just over here, now it seems to be happening the world over. Try this one, Our state government have introduced what they call a certificate 4 which is a national vocational qualification in "volunteer work". this of course has to be paid for or a loan has to be sought by the applicant. At the end of the course they have a student debt but they are qualified to be a volunteer!
Lol. It's like a couple of drunks sitting on a bench after chucking out time, ranting at the moon. he he Fair play though. Agree we should be spreading as much of this wealth with the local community as possible and paying wages for local employees would be a start. That said, at graduate time I get hundreds of people asking for unpaid work....it's just a very difficult time for graduates right now.
