ok so for the original point. Progress is not really measured in cup runs. I looked back at a few points in our previous managerial regimes and found that true progress will relate to key signings that are men who deliver, not pussies who bottle it frankly. Take houllier... hyppia and hammann made his team and we "progressed" by delivering. Rafa... alonso frankly.. moving carra to CB etc. we need men not boys now. we need to go from a side teams fancy a result against to a team nobody wants to play and that can be done in the stoke way or the swansea way... and rodgers promised this himself. Its very clear its not delivered. But if he is clear i nthe goal and signs well in the summer great but if he buys more of the type of allen, borini and such (he basically raided his swansea list which was a huge error) MEN take the field knowing they need to and will work, everyone is aligned on delivering the work and as a result there is trust to make runs and someone steps in.. there are no floundering, introverted, on my won type of performances. I simply have seen for far far too long LFC play like kids, I want us to sign tough hard men not soft weak willed boys (like downing ) Get us a hyppia, an alonso and another suarez and then we'll progress.. football is that simple.... however we must also then look to the drive behind the wheel. Utd kill all other rivals off cos the man at the helm gets hard work each and every game and when it dips he rages at them. WIll rodgers rail at his players and give them a right rocket. Are they going to sit down after southampton and get a verbal bashing and get the hell kicked out fo them this week? thats the measure. any team can have a bad day but the next 3 better be damned hot.
I didn't mention cup runs in the OP? The main point was that players need to start playing for the shirt and take every game as just as important as the next and that it's not really players that make the difference but mentality.
At this point, I really want us to get much much better in the league. A cup run here and there is always great but we need to up everything that we do in the league.
Getting a europa league place would be progress. A realistic aim would be champions league place within 3 years, challenging for title within 5 would be a great job done.
Hoping and realism is different though. Just cant see getting top 4 next year. So, so far off this season and thats with Chelsea, Arsenal, Spurs being pretty poor. They should all improve too. The year after perhaps if continue improving, then into the CL for the year after. From then on - the skys the limit! Thankyou, its a good read
Like you say its been a bit 2 steps forward one step back. It would be hard to say he's done better thAn Dalglish last season given we were in 2 cup finals, won a trophy and finished 8th. Where as this season we are only 7th and 3 points better off than same stage last year despite being knocked out of everything pretty early. Also dalglish quAlified for europe and it doesnt look like we will this year. Given all this I'd have to say we are worse off so no progress since last season. That said we have got better in the league as the season has gone on and on the whole we are playing decent football and scoring more goals. I think if rodgers can strengthen the defence and add a bit of physical strength to the teAm we will do well next year. He needs to start taking the cup competitions seriously though, trying to get top 4 is all well and good but he needs to win trophy.

Yeh i do respect Liverpool, you deserve and should be in the CL and hope we go back to the sky four again soon or you take Arsenals place
