Does he deserve a new contract. http://www.thisishullandeastriding.co.uk/story-18469856-detail/story.html?#axzz2NoeeZEN1 http://www.ambernectar.org/blog/2013/03/news-mcshane-out-for-rest-of-season/? Personally, I'd like to see Super Macca get a new 2 year contract (reduced rates of course).
If we go up I wouldn't offer him a contract. If we don't get promoted I'd offer him a year with a option of another year.
Sign him up! No question Didn't I hear Bruce say Macca's wage wouldn't be a problem or something along those lines or am I making it up
I definitely wouldn't give him another deal if we got promoted, did we not learn from the last disastrous contract we gave him?
Interesting one, if we stay in the Championship I think it's a given that Bruce will keep him, but it is not a given if we do go up. Considering that we'd still have Chester, Hobbs and Bruce no doubt, I think it will depend on what formation he is looking to play. If he's going to continue with 3-5-2 I think he'll keep him on and will recruit an additional CB so we have 5 for the 3 positions like this year (assuming Mad Abdolye is on his way). However if he is going to go to 4 at the back, I think he'd look to release Macca, keep the 3 mentioned above and buy in a new CB so he has 4 for 2 positions, rather than keeping with the current 4 for 2 positions. From a personal perspective i'd like to see him stay no matter what, i've never had an issue with him (only his wage) and think he has shown a lot of maturity this year and will have the benefit of experience which none of the other defenders have of playing at that level.
He said "if we go up he can have the same terms no problem" Which probably suggests he's not on as much as some people on here would have you believe.
After the season he has had it would be ridiculous to release him. He is coming to the prime of his career and is worthy of new (reduced) terms whether we are promoted or not.
He's been 'good' and nothing more. The exaggeration of his form is ridiculous. He's still been exposed plenty of times and he doesn't offer the brilliance of Chester or the omnipresent reliability of Hobbs.
I think your exaggeration of Chester and Hobbs is more ridiculous IMO. I'm not slagging 'em off, but you've raised them to such a high pedestal that nobody will ever compare. We let in 10 goals in 3 games and Macca was on on the pitch for one of them. He came back and we conceded 0 at Burnley and were on course to do so again against Forest until he went off and our defence evidently got a lot shakier. Gandalf has let more past him than McShane this season, and I find your constant need to belittle his contributions somewhat bizarre. Player of the season, no doubt.
There you go again with the clever way you state it as fact so no one can argue. Glennon's right and that's that. If you don't want to debate it properly, don't give your opinion at all. Tony - did you see the goal against Palace when Macca was on the pitch? And notice who was beaten in a piss-takingly easy manner? Add that to all the other gaffs I've offered you this season and it's been nothing more than an alright season for Macca, just like Bruce and Faye (although Faye, I reckon, would have made more of an impact if he'd had the chance).
He was beaten, not really a "gaff" as you'd call it. Nobody's saying he's perfect though, if he was he wouldn't be here. He's had a far better season than Hobbs and Chester though, I really think you're judging people by name rather than performance. As I said above, look at the performances when he was out the team for a while, the defence was all over the shop. It was even more evident in the Forest game when he had to go off. Also, I'm ignoring your "other gaffs" comment because we've had that debate before and you strived ridiculously hard to blame McShane for goals that obviously weren't his fault.
I think Mcshane was offering more than Hobbs or Chester myself as he is in the oppositions face and taking the game to them, I think a lot of our tankings recently might have been down to Hobbs and Chester not showing the same kind of fighting spirit as Macca. They might be better players technically but in our league you need to get stuck in a bit more sometimes and impose yourself and they don't do that nearly enough.
Looks like the HDM have got nothing better to write about during the International Break. Pointless story by the fail. Maybe the HDM should send Buckingham out to Egypt to watch the 3 lads play for there country and report back. Or go and watch Brady play for ROI or Boyd for the Scots. Would make a change. Steve Bruce has already said that Paul McShane will be offered a new contract.
McShane has had his best season for us, no doubt about it, he's done very well. But anyone who thinks he's a Premier League player, is either pissed, stupid, or both. I'm pissed and stupid and I still know he's not good enough to play at that level.
