1. David Beckham-Paris Saint Germain-â¬36 million The English midfielder is said to rake in a total of 36 million euros for 2012/13 however, just five per cent of that is from wages. Heâs reportedly making 1.7 million euros for his five-month stint at PSG with bonuses of 1.3 million euros. Heâs making most of his money from an incredible amount of about 33 million euros worth of advertising deals. 2. Lionel Messi-Barcelona-â¬35 million The 25-year-old Argentinean international Messi will earn 35 million euros over the course of the year with 13 million euros coming from his club in the form of wages and bonuses. The other 22 million is in advertising and sponsorships etc. 3. Cristiano Ronaldo-Real Madrid- â¬30 million The 28-year-ol Ronaldo actually makes more than Messi in salary and bonuses as Madrid pay him 13.5 million euros a year. He makes 30 million euros in total with the remainder coming from advertising deals. 4. Samuel Etoâo- Anzhi Makhachkala-â¬24 million The 32-year-old Cameroon international striker will make a total of 24 million euros over the space of 12 months. Heâs now playing for Russian side Anzhi Makhachkala and may need to spend most of his salary on heating bills over there. 5. Neymar-Santos-â¬20 million The 20-year-old Brazilian international forward has gotten his career off to a great start with 20 million euros paid to him over the year. Perhaps he could spend some of it on a new barber. 6. Sergio Aguero-Manchester City- â¬19 million The 24-year-old Argentinean international forward will make 19 million euros with Man City this year. Unfortunately heâs missed part of the current season due to injury. Was a City hero last season when he scored to help them win the title. 7. Wayne Rooney-Manchester United- â¬18 million Rooney, a 27year-old England international makes a decent living with Man United as heâs set to make 18 million euros. No word on how much the strikerâs hair plugs cost him though. 8. Zlatan Ibrahimovic-Paris Saint Germain- â¬17.5 million The 31-year-old Swedish international striker will strike it rich this year with his a total income being pegged at 17.5 million euros. According to fashion guru Joey Barton the big Swede might want to use some of the cash for a nose job. 9. Yaya Toure-Manchester City- â¬16.6 million The 29-year-old Ivory Coast international midfielder will take home 16.6 million euros in the 2012/13 season by playing for Man City. Heâs a force to be reckoned with on the pitch and one of Cityâs most valuable players. 10. Fernando Torres-Chelsea-â¬16.3 million The 28-year-old Torres may be a flop on the pitch to some fans, but heâs still getting paid top dollar. The Spanish international striker is going to deposit 16.3 million euros into his bank account this year. Itâs about time he deposited a few balls in the net for his club though.
I'm surprised at neymar. I didn't know Brazilian clubs could pay that much, or is the figure inclusive of sponsorship, image rights etc?
That's what I thought but some of them (like yaya toure) say the figure is for playing for man city. And it was early (for me)
Brazilian clubs are quids in now, a sign of the booming economy over there. They're predicting the talent drain to Europe might be a thing of the past and indeed players make look to go back, like Pato has.
Beckham is giving away his salary, but his salary is only 5% of his earnings and I suspect he'll manage to muddle by on the €34.2m a year he's hanging on to.
Ridiculous post. Are you seriously suggesting players would sooner stay near the beach, surrounded by scantily clad young women in 35 degree temperatures than play their hearts out for Boro?mercenaries!
Interesting to see that hardly any of the top 10 highest paid players would make a list of the top 10 best players.
And not one of them can hold a candle to the likes of George Best - Pele - Cruyff - Maradonna - Eusabio - Puskas - Matthews - Finney - Lofthouse - Carter - Charles and the like.
Let them stay in Brazil as far as i am concerned. IMO, the current crop are nowhere near the standard you expect of a Brazilian player.
Dont be daft. None of them would have survived back in the day of heavy leather footballs - muddy pitches and defenders that could actually do what they wanted. Your three have taken advantage of a game thats gone soft. But thats not there fault.
Ronaldo and Messi are right up there with all those you mentioned and probably better than most. Nat Lofthouse ffs?!
