    Correct.
The main fault lies with the assistant who was on that side of the pitch and stood on the half way line. He saw it and yet believed it was a fair challenge. This only goes to prove my assertion that most officials are incompetent fools.
The FA need to change their rules so that even if the match officials think there was nothing wrong, if it is clear on the replay that there was, then retrospective action must be taken and the officials punished too.

They are the ones who make the rules, in exception cases they can be broken, eg when that pompey player had his jaw broken and the officials saw it and gave him a yellow, he was still banned for several games.

If they rules are so stupid (which they clearly are), why dont they change them?

Joey Barton: They’d have thrown book at me for Callum McManaman challenge
    Tuesday 19 Mar 2013 10:34 pm

Horror lunge: Callum McManaman’s challenge could end Massadio Haidara’s season (Picture: Sky Sports)
Callum McManaman got away with his already notorious challenge on Newcastle’s Massadio Haidara – to the outrage of outspoken former Toon star Joey Barton.

Following the surprise news Wigan’s McManaman would not receive retrospective action following Sunday’s horror tackle, Barton said the Football Association would have thrown the book if it had been him.

Writing on Twitter, Barton declared: ‘I am almost certain if I or another player with a negative FA persona had made that challenge, I’d [have] without doubt received a ban.’

Barton was given a 12-match ban after clashing with Manchester City players after being sent off for QPR on the final day of last season.

Joey Barton had his say on Twitter (Picture: Twitter)
Former Aston Villa, Wolves and Coventry winger Steve Froggatt, whose career was cut short by a bad Nicky Summerbee challenge in 2000, also used Twitter to hit out angrily at the FA. ‘From someone who lost his career through a bad tackle I find the decision from the FA shameful, embarrassing and above all gutless,’ he said.

Reading striker Jason Roberts was also unimpressed, saying: ‘TBF. if McManaman is not being charged after that potentially career ending challenge. nobody should EVER be charged after the event again!’

An FA statement read: ‘Retrospective action should only be taken in respect of incidents which have not been seen by the match officials.

‘It has been confirmed that at least one of the officials saw the coming together, though not the full extent of the challenge. In these circumstances retrospective action cannot be taken.’

Newcastle were further angered when assistant manager John Carver was charged with misconduct by the FA, along with Wigan coach Graham Barrow, following a clash at half-time.

Does Pedro Mendes ring any bells? Exact same scenario and the guy who did him got a booking but was still banned, the FA are laughable.

At real time to me I honestly do not think the lad went to hurt him .. he stretched too high for a ball the french kiddy went in like a ladyboy ... the wigan lad missed most of the ball and his foot landed on his knee.

Sorry lads to me it was a mistake and if they had done something then the floodgates would have opened ... bad ,mistaken, mistimed, accident and missed by the ref ... sort of covers most matches in the four divisions each week ... media spotlight whipped this right up because of the trainers reaction ... who all watched and reacted after they had watched video.

Get a grip lads and think about the facts of this and the implications of judging **** after the event ... the game gone crap enough .. i feel sorry for both players in this case

That incident probably resulted in FIFA tightening up the rules on it.

Re: McManaman free to pay against us

Was that a Freudian slip, and it's pay back time against us? I'm sure that Samba Diakite could a number on him?
