Well done to Carver for wanting to lay McManaman out!

On the last point, I think that was viewed by the ref as him sportingly putting the ball out of play to allow treatment for our player, as otherwise it is a clear yellow

Really? I saw as him blatantly stopping the ball going down the line. Didn't appear too concerned with Haidara, none of them did.

I'm both a senile old fool and a dribbling old bastard so please don't tar us all with the same brush, how the dozy old twat( I'm one of those as well) can defend that is beyond all reasoning.

I was working yesterday so didn't see the match or even the highlights, however I've just seen the tackle on You Tube....f*ck me that's as bad as I've seen and that includes going back to the days of McNamee, Hunter, Harris and Storey.

Let's just hope FA grow some balls and give a punishment that the challenge deserves, I'd like to think he'd get more than 3 games, Wigan get compulsory relegation and Whelan gets £100 worth of vouchers for Sports Direct.

It really did look bad, and to most of us it looked as if he intentionally meant to take Haidara out of the game.

A pity that Carver hadn't taken McManaman out of the game.

But he would have ended up with a bigger punishment than McManaman.

Its the most plausible reasoning I have heard. I think Halsey just was not on his game. Just failed to enforce the basic rules and missed key game changing incidents. Like I say although I was raging yesterday, I think as a fan you just have to accept you get these games. We have had probably more bad luck than good luck this season in terms of decisions. Yet we've had more bad luck than good luck with injuries. Last year was the opposite. Swings and roundabouts I suppose.

I think that the argument that he's sorry and that there was absolutely no malice involved is a little shallow. He knew from the contact he made that he could have seriously hurt the player, so why did he attempt to play on? Any honest player would surely stop playing and immediately draw attention to the fact that he was writhing around in agony, unable to straighten his leg, and, according to Santon, bleeding quite heavily. If he had any concern for a fellow professional, he wouldn't have chased the ball and would've ensured medical help arrived ASAP.

Absolute bollocks. Knew exactly what he was doing. If he had lunged but not been looking I'd have said ok, but it was just a reckless challenge designed to hurt someone. Absolute scum who'll hopefully get his. As you say, he knew what contact he made so it renders his pleas a little fake to say the least. Pure malice and he can stick his apology up his arse.

The little **** **** knew exactly what he had done. I only hope he gets snapped in half next season at St James or most probably, his wretched, used tampon smelling team get relegated. Either way I'm happy but I would prefer the former

    This.

It's become an utter farce from Wigan now...

If the roles had been reversed, Whelan would be looking for the death penalty for our player. <doh>

The FA must be deeming the 'tackle' OK since the silence from them today on the situation is deafening. I'll be suprised if they act, loathe to admit one of their incompetent refs was wrong and since it was against us can't see them acting. I was gutted that tiote didn't snap the boy in half later in the game, I was waiting for it, Carver should have knocked him clean out. If Halsey is ever given a game at SJP there will be hell on, I'd refuse to play the game with him officiating since he's clearyl shown a lack of ability and willingness to protect our players from career ending tackles. His vision was blocked is a crap excuse, we all heard the scream and is it not his job to be well positioned to see incidents. He ought to be never allowed to ref again.

The Football Association will study all the available TV footage of Wigan's Callum McManaman's challenge on Newcastle's Massadio Haïdara before deciding if retrospective action can be brought against the 21-year-old.

The FA disciplinary officials are also waiting for the report of the referee, Mark Halsey, before making a decision. Usually, on-the-ball incidents cannot be dealt with retrospectively as it is seen as challenging the opinion of the referee.

If however, Halsey reports he did not see the studs-up lunge by McManaman because he was unsighted then there is the possibility the Wigan player could be charged.
