Lenny, really, really glad about the point but there was so much wrong......including the worst ref in ages. May write a fuller report later.......just too happy with Wales win to concentrate. Question: Where was the midfield? for 75mins? What captaining did Richards do when back four were 'disagreeing' and again when Taylor got bad service.....no-one took responsibilty today. Pity Gayle had to go off at least he thinks what he's doing. Eaves is a class apart, with a partner we would slaughter opponents. Taylor seemed to improve as the game went on.....and on the left! Things seemed better when McGinn came on. Before that we never got to rebounds or got to 50/50 balls first. The ref.....well, made a terrible decision right in front of us....was not even looking in right direction and as always linesman didn't flag; they only do when it's so obvious even the ref will get it right. No penalty and I wouldn't mind betting our free-kick later was to make up....and it wasn't even a freekick! Would rather have had penalty (or two???) The lady sat next to me was from Ford Heath.....bet you know her as it's not exactly a metropolis! My first school was in Ford!! Will we keep Weale? Let's hope so. Now to heading!!! We need practice, too many go in the wrong direction....all were culpable. Defensive ones were marginally better than midfield. We played better at pace (less time for things to go wrong!); this has been noticeable for ages. If we play as we can we are good but too often we don't put in a full shift at enough speed. Rant over, my 108 mile trip was worth it for the point....enjoyed the company.
I went to the Primary school in Ford - it's now three times the size as it's a merge of Yockleton, Ford and (I think) Alberbury primary schools into one. As for a fellow Ford Heathion, I wasn't aware of any others who liked football, so that's a nice surprise! McGinn must have done something to Turner! No idea why he's not starting games; although Summerfield has been decent since coming back in, D. Mac is still not playing consistently at the top of his game and McGinn and Summerfield would be my preference for a central midfield duo. I expect we will keep Weale - we don't tend to sell our best players when under contract if they're over 25, Grant Holt being the only one I can remember.
Think you may be right, Summerfield was better later on at Crewe......and D.Mac fairly anonymous. Your fellow Ford Heathion was probably late 50s (hope that's right!) short lady with glasses. Pleasant and cheery and knew about her football!!
I didn't go and didn't listen as went to see Milton Jones in Brum. Had a few real ales in the Old Post Office Vaults (newish pub) and the Old Fox Inn down by the theatres. Went to Jimmy Spices for a multicultural all you can obesitise buffet meal that was very nice - European, Middle East, Americas, Asian, Far Eastern foods, giving the potential of lamb rogan josh and sushi being on the same plate. I won't vote, but from what I have read and looked at via the match commentary I think McAllister could do with a break and McGinn and Summerfield teamed up in CM for the forthcoming game. Our LW conundrum is an issue and failure in signing a player for that position in January yet getting in more central midfielders than we need is causing problems.
