Meyler's attacking play was woeful last night but he is a good player to have on when you are defending a lead or trying to keep a clean sheet (bit like Alex Bruce & Evans). There is no doubt that Meyler adds qualities to our team, I just hope he adds consistency to his game. As for last night's MOM: Quinn Boyd McShane
1- Chester 2- Simpson 3-Quinn if ever thread highlighted how football is a game of opinions, this is it.. thought gedo and elmo where poor personally and actually said at half time, dont think the egyptians fancy a freezing night in burnley.. not sure if elmo was told to hang back but he was a lot more often then normal, gedo to me is more suited to home games, tried his best but the difference to simpsons hold up play and running the channels and the general work needed more away from home was immediate imo... thought there wasnt much stand to out like most other views...Chester was his usual self and chose quinn and simpson for providing the moment of quality
Simpson changed the game when he came on but there were at least three better performers than him last night. Elmo was clearly under instruction to play more as a full back due to us shipping 8 goals in the previous two away games.
Chester Quinn Hobbs Not a classic by any means as Goochie says. The back 3 and midfield were solid but couldn't create much. Elmo didn't get forward much and kept cutting inside (why do wingers always start doing that?! ) Brady linked up well but his crosses were poor and the front two didn't get in the game much through no fault of their own. Simpson made a difference but he wasn't really on long enough for me.
Personally thought Boyd by a country mile tbh, defence did their job with probably Macca and Hobbs the picks
Steve Bruce must me a contender, even if it is for his after match interview as well as his substitutions. What a breath of fresh air his interviews are, a sense of humour and honest assessment of the game well delivered. On another slant Brian Laws of Scunny, what a boring prat he is, I listen to his after match interview a week or so ago, I don't know who's worse him or NP.
1) Boyd - big thing for me was how much harder he worked back when Koren came on showing he's happy to play the team game when we're theoretically weaker defensively. And he showed some nice touches. 2) Elmo - looks good down the wing and was cutting inside their left side for fun last night. Always an air of expectation when he got the ball. 3) Quinn - scored None of the back3 in there as Burnley were so awful going forward that although a clean sheet is great, a lot of what they did was just bread and butter defending.
Final result: Boyd McShane Chester. Table at the moment (only those to have scored a point included): Quinn 32 Aluko, Chester, McShane 23 Elmohammady 20 Brady 15 Faye 14 Simpson 13 Evans 11 Gedo 10 Boyd 9 Proschwitz, Hobbs 7 Dudgeon, Meyler 6 Bruce 5.5 Koren, Jakupovic, Stockdale 5 Amos 4 McLean, McKenna 3 Stewart 2 Olofinjana 1 Cairney 0.5
