As in F 1,.. a driver does NOT proceed from g0-karts directly into F 1, ...do they...? The NASCAR truck series IS just a step up the ladder to the main series, national and sprint cup.. If YOU blokes from across the pond ever get an opportunity to watch any of the three nascar series races, you cannot help notice the vast amount of passing AND the drafting, without the problem of"dirty air" upsetting the trailing carS. yYou cannot compare F 1 with NASCAR just as you cannot compare rally racing with F 1 or drag racing, EXCEPT that they all have five(5) wheels, (one of which, to guide the car into the corners...! a thought... If F 1 reduced the amopunt of downforce with MORE aero ground effects AND a committment to fuel economy, and a lower co-efficient of drag, then there WILL be MORE passing in the races which will result in much more action. In any sprint cup race, there are literally hundreds & hundreds of passes going on, and NOT just a few scant dozen as witnessed in F 1. Also, Watch the INDY car OPEN wheel series later this month, & YOU will see plenty of passing with open wheel cars... it's no wonder that F 1 is becoming a parade performance rather than a more exciting thrilling event... I have WORKED ON track with F1, Nascar, as well as Indy car racing(open wheel), in my younger days...AND I believe F 1 IS losing scope of the desires of world auto racing fans to EXPECT thrilling racing, and FIA is in the dark as to attrracting more fans... Just a side thought... In F-1, considering the fact that tire heat is so, so important to the grip of the car, why NOT use the exhaust from the enfines to produce & keep heat in the tires by aiming SOME of that exhaust AT the tires....
Autosport reports that Raikkonen has no plans to go any further in NASCAR racing or to return to F1 or, apparently, beyond the middle of next week. He came 15th in his first race, six places ahead of Piquet Jr. Hamilton's next up.
Raikonnen apparently doesn't want to rule out the possibility of F1 next year, so say PlanetF1. Interesting development, maybe he'd be more interested in a drive if it wasn't for a top, top team? Potential successor to Schumacher in the mercedes? I think the problem Kimi has is that he hasn't committed to one form of motorsport, he's almost now a jack of all trades but a master of none. He's still got a few years of competition in him, so now is the time for him to get a seat in a team and make a name for himself again. In my opinion he's good enough for F1, and I'd love to see him return.
Looks like the guy may come back, now that would be something. Raikkonen.v.Hamilton.v.Alonso.v.Schumacher.v.Button.v.Webber.v.Vettel.v.Massa!!!
