Sorry if this has already been covered in others posts, but i just want to find out the general consensus of how many points we will accumulate over the rest of the season. Obviously the results never go the way you expect especially in the Championship, but i just thought it'd be a bit of fun to see what our expected total points would be. Therefore the games we have left are: Barnsley (A) Burnley (H) Hull (A) Cardiff (H) Peterborough (A) Millwall (A) Blackburn (H) Leicester (A) Leeds (H) Personally i think we will get 16 points from a possible 27 points in our remaining matches, giving us a total of 82. This may seem negative to some, but i do think the end of season jitters are affecting all the clubs at the top of the league. So next question is, what tally will the dragons, Ull, Palarse etc get and do you see it being more than us?
i have a feeling Cardiff will bottle it, and Palace will keep steaming on...so they may take 2nd...and at the moment, we seem to be having a dip, so i suspect we will end up in the playoffs with Cardiff...and Hull and CP taking first and second. But then, my opinion changes every 5 minutes so don't ask me! lol Of the remaining matches i can see us getting 18 max.
After much thought, deliberation, mulling over, tossing of coins etc, I think have come up with the definitive answer... CHRIST KNOWS!
If we can show the sort of grit and determination a fellow WFC fan showed last week in NZ (I'm not referring to NZHorn), we should get enough points.
erm hopefully: Barnsley 3 Burnley 3 Hull 1 Cardiff 1 Peterborough 3 Millwall 1 Blackburn 1 Leicester 1 Leeds 3 a minimum of 17...... but who knows!!
After the muppet we had for a ref. on Sat, I'm not sure if there's any point in this any longer. At least I can guarantee that we won't be relegated (unless the FL deduct a shed load of points and 19 teams have miraculous results - I don't think so). However, in the unlikley event that we maintain our form, get proper referees, and all the teams around us do likewise, the final points will be - based on form over last 10, form over last 5, mean of those 2 values averaged Team last 10 last 5 Mean Cardiff (90.8 86.4) 88 Hull (85 84.2) 84 + WFC (84 84) 84 Palarse (81.2 83) 82 Forest (72.3 84) 78 Bolton (72.9 81 77 Leicester(72 68) 70 Boro (60.3 61.2) 61 So, if you believe that form over last 10/5 games will determine these things, then that's what we will get. The good news (at the moment) is that our 10 game average is bettered only by Bolton ( 21/20 points) and our 5 game average is betterd only by forest & bolton. Forest have to play Hull, Brighton, Cardiff & Leicester. I hope they wreak some havoc there! Bolton have to play Leicester and Cardiff only. Cardiff have to play Leicester, us, Forest Bolton & Hull. I thought their run-in was easy until Forest & Bolton started firing on all cyclinders. Therefore, it goes down to last game for us & Hull. I'm reasonably confident that the top 2 will be from Cardiff/Hull/WFC/Palarse. What makes it interesting (worrying) is that Hull play Cardiff at KFC last game. If Cardiff are already promoted, then that will (I think) seriously damage our chances. So, somehow we need to drag Cardiff back into the mix. Then I would back us to beat Leeds - who should have no interest by then. I wonder if I'll believe all this at the end of March!
If your thoroughly researched predictions come true then it makes for a seriously exciting end to the season. And if it comes down to the last game and we need a win for that second spot, then i'll sell my grandma to get to the Leeds match! What an atmosphere that'd be. Thanks to the people who responded.
Before Blackpool I made an XL file of how I thought Watford and the other teams would progress to the seasons finish. At kl.17:00 the file was in the trash. The only thing certain is we are not to be relegated because of what happens in the field.
We seem to lose 1 a month. So, I think we'll lose at Hull (great crowd), beat Cardiff (no, really!) and beat Blackburn or Millwall, maybe both if they haven't got much to play for. That would make 20- points - so at least it is in line with the form table. If it was that simple , it wouldn't be so much fun. The other optimistic bit is that we haven't lost 2 in succession since October (Cardiff & blackburn). GFZ does seem to have a knack for getting them up after a disappointment.
And what, may I ask, was wrong with the grit and determination I showed last week! Barry, I think you need reminding that my island is bigger than your island.
Team last 10 last 5 Mean Cardiff (90.8 86.4) 88 86.4 82 84+ Hull (85 84.2) 84 + WFC (84 84) 84 Palarse (81.2 83) 82 Forest (72.3 84) 78 Bolton (72.9 81 77 Leicester(72 68) 70 70 68 69 Boro (60.3 61.2) 61 Brighton (69.5 68.6) 69 So,how's about Cardiff, Hull & WFC all on 82 (say), with 1 to play and Palarse on 80 ? Goodnight all !
Nothing wrong with it all, just didn't get the media coverage. As for the size of the island, that's nothing to boast about as even the Isle of Man is bigger than Jersey.
Actually it is quite simple: we have to at least match Hull and Palace result for result, and make sure that we beat Hull. That keeps us ahead of the Eagles and will put us ahead of Hull. If we and another club are no more than 2 points behind Cardiff going into the last match then that will make it really interesting! Hopefully Leeds will be out of it by then but if Hull and Cardiff are both 3 points ahead of us going into the last game then that match will make the Austria v Germany tie in the 1982 world cup look totally legitimate!
My recent predictions for Watford have been woeful so I am not even going to attempt to predict 9 games now. Two things are certain though - as Fez says above our fate is still in our own hands; if we beat Hull - a BIG IF - then ALL we have to do is match Hull and Palace in the other games. Secondly our results against the remaining teams has to be a whole lot better than last year - we got a total of 10 points from those 9 games - relegation form We beat Burnley and Millwall We drew with Barnsley, Leeds, Cardiff and Peterborough We lost to Leicester,Hull and Blackburn 10 points would give us 76 and that would almost certainly mean play offs On the other hand in the final 9 games of last year we won 4, drew 4 and lost only 1 - a total of 16 points - that would give us 82 and a fighting chance of automatic promotion. It is going to be a case of the team that holds its nerves best will get there
I agree re the Hull game.....the result of that one could be massive. Hence WFC providing free coaches! I have got my tickets
I believe this is a likely senario! With last nights results 7th place is unlikely to gain more than 2 points a game meaning that we require only 8 more points to be certain of the play-offs. Automatic promotion for us will depend on the freshness and fitness of key players and without them we will struggle. The finish line is coming into sight and it will be hard to fall over the line - I cannot see us doing it in style or with a flourish but a hard slog but it will be the same for every team.
You can't compare results with last year as we have a mostly different team who play with a different style, different formation and have a different manager. I can guarantee right now that we will score more points than 10 out of the 27 available. If not i'll eat my lucky pants. But like i said i think we will be on or around 16 points which will definately make it touch and go, so the Hull and Cardiff games could be vital. Personally i think we won't go up if we don't get an automatic place.
