Joe Jordan hails impact of QPR's January signings in the Premier League

    Last Updated: March 13, 2013 10:34am

Joe Jordan delighted with January acquisitions

Joe Jordan has praised the impact of Queens Park Rangers' January signings - revealing that the team needed greater experience and quality to attempt to climb away from the drop zone.

Goals from Loic Remy, Andros Townsend and Jermaine Jenas, all of whom joined the club in the last transfer window, helped Harry Redknapp's men to a vital 3-1 victory against Sunderland.

And the R's first team coach says the trio, as well as Christopher Samba, have played a major role in the Hoops achieving back-to-back wins for the first time in the Premier League since December 1995.

Jordan told the club website: "Chris has come in and been exceptional. It's no surprise his performances keep improving. He just needed games.

"He's got the games under his belt now and is getting better and better. He gives us a voice in the dressing room as well which is vital for us. He's a leader.

"The two lads from Spurs have also been great for us. Jermaine has come in and his experience is key. He's not only a very good player, but he has a good head on him and is a great person to have about the club. His goal was fantastic.

"Along with Andros, who is just starting his career, they've been fantastic for us. Andros is playing with a maturity that you just don't expect from one so young. He's expressed himself fantastically well.

"Loic will always get you goals. He's a fine finisher and has already shown why we were so keen to bring him to the club in January."

Like Redknapp, Jordan believes one or two clubs are now beginning to look over their shoulders, with the business end of the season fast approaching.

"Harry has always made the point that he has a great belief in what we are trying to achieve here - to get ourselves out of a very difficult situation," said Jordan.

"There's still a very long way to go in that respect, but what we have done is given ourselves a chance with a few good performances and results. There's a bit of belief around the place now. That's a major thing."

I can't get over how meek and mild-mannered Joe Jordan looks nowadays, compared to his playing heyday. I expect he can revert to his former firey self when provoked.

They've all given us something, to varying degrees, since coming in.

Whether it's down to only getting 4 players in, their professionalism or experience but it's fantastic that they've settled so quickly.

I must admit that I was somewhat underwhelmed with our January signings. Samba aside ( He is what I expected and has delivered. Set piece goal is missing though. ), I thought Remy was a bit too light weight for this league, Townsend I didn't really know a lot about and Jenas was a talented player who never really fulfilled his potential.

Townsend has for me, been our best signing of recent years ( albeit on loan. ) Jenas could be next seasons captain and a quality steady Eddie in midfield and Remy could well be the forward that every other team wished they had.

    I truly am fickle.

But I reserve the right to be whatever I choose to be.

Agree 9s - Remy does look a bit lightweight but they've got to catch him to out-muscle him... :)

Hopefully Townsend will get told that he won't get games at Spurs and then location, opportunity and familiarity might give us an edge in the hunt.

Great posts Norway. That was only last season. This is the bit when you do a reality check and realise that these two footballing greats are at the helm of our club right now.

I had to google a picture of him from his playing days to convince the lad that he was a bit of a warrior!

Joseph was a hero for my old Dad - Gattuso knew not with whom he was a-messing. Very funny - Gattusso should thank his God that Joe had his teeth in

We are blessed with such a good manager, dislike or not he gets results, has an eye for talent, who would of thought Townsend would of been such a hit.

Also this one:- (like the 'Arry quote, "I think Joe can look after himself. He doesn’t need me.")

    Coach Jordan in F-word bust-up

    29th December 2010
JOE JORDAN almost sparked a touchline punch-up after Younes Kaboul was sent off yesterday.
Spurs coach Jordan went nose-to-nose with Newcastle goalkeeping coach Andy Woodman as they traded insults.

Jordan screamed ‘Any time you like, any f****** time you like’ after Woodman told the former Manchester United and Scotland hardman where to go following Kaboul’s dismissal for butting Cheik Tiote.

The ugly confrontation was only cooled down when Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp stepped in.

Redknapp, though, was incensed with Kaboul and said: “His sending off was stupid. Kaboul apparently pushed his head in Tiote’s face.

“It’s a stupid lack of discipline. You’re 1-0 up so why do you have to go and do something like that? He has to learn but he’s gone and got himself a three-match ban.

“I’m disappointed with Kaboul. You can’t do that, you’ve got to keep disciplined. He’d already had a booking and he knew the situation in the game. He knew we couldn’t afford to go down to 10 men.”

After the match Kaboul protested his innocence and claimed: “I don’t know why I was sent off.”

Toon boss Alan Pardew said: “Tiote is a competitive player. He got involved in certain situations and Kaboul probably had that in his mind.

“Tiote’s challenge on Kaboul was strong but fair. Perhaps he over-reacted to everything around Tiote.

“But I thought the referee wasn’t going to do anything he took so long. Kaboul had to go.”

Jordan and Woodman shook hands at the end and Redknapp joked: “I think Joe can look after himself. He doesn’t need me.”
