If he is free to look elsewhere at this stage, we presumably can stop paying him (?). Be interesting if he goes to Reading...his availability may have put the nail in McD's coffin. Still makes little sense to me as both are good Championship managers who can get you promoted. Leeds might be a better fit for NA. Sad it wasn't all sorted before, but not jumping to criticise NC about it until details come out. Nigel may have wanted too much, Nicola offered too little...we don't know at the moment.
It looks like Cortese hasn't got a leg here and Nigel won't need Rumpole to get a result.I heard a whisper from someone connected to the club that Adkins was being lined upby Leeds to take over from Colin when he quits at the end of the season.
They mention previous cases...did they get a full pay out of their contracts? Or does the tribunal arrive at compromises?
The norm is to settle out of court. In those cases the club would usually insist on a confidentiality clause as part of the deal.
I'd like to see him at leeds. Good club with rich history, would be nice to see him take them up and have another crack at the prem.
Lets hope Nige gets all monies due to him, namely his contract fully paid up. Would have been good had NC done the decent thing and paid him off, but I guess that was never going to happen? Wonder what Ted Bates would make of our illustrious chairman?
I don't love it, but it's becoming a more common tactic. The logic I've heard applied in previous situations like this is that a full payoff of the contract, when the person in question takes another job soon after, leaves them essentially getting paid twice and thus creates a perverse incentive to get fired. Now, there's some sense and some nonsense involved, but my guess is that Cortese wants it to go to tribunal, have Nigel get another position (and he certainly will) in the meantime and settle for a sum close to the differential between the owed portion of the original contract and his new deal.
I wonder how Newcastle will deal with AP if they want to get rid of him, would they honour the rest of the eight year contract? or would it be a similar situation to ours?
Depends on whether dismissal is unlawful or unfair. Its a bit complicated. Also, I don't think compensation would depend on what Adkins does subsequently. Thats a bit of a nonsense if you think about it. All he'd have to do is nothing, get paid and then get a job.
Reading can't wait for this to be sorted. Will only have about five games left by the time the paperwork is sorted. Cortese, even if he loses, will definitely be dragging his feet for that reason.
This is all paper talk as far as I'm concerned. We can be fairly sure they haven't worked out the details yet, and tribunals are hardly uncommon in cases such as this, but I'm taking everything else with a generous pinch of salt.
As he is good mates with Mike Ashley this seems unlikely, however you never know. I wonder how we will feel if we see Adkins get a massive pay off if we get relegated under Adkin's replacement
It won't be 'massive' in football terms. We're talking 6 figures here, it's not going to bankrupt us.
If I got sacked from my job, I wouldn't get **** all. Why people get their knickers in a twist over wealthy managers getting their contracts paid up is beyond me.
