The pitch is a ****ing joke - I have seen flatter veg patches. I thought the U18s were pretty good, considering Liverpool pick talent from a global network. Most ours are from Hull/Ireland. Some of the young lads looked to be at a decent level - Barlow looked decent when he came on, put in some ace crosses. Clark good at the back, first half strikers were good, left side we were decent. Nothing to be embarrassed about losing.
Watched the game on LFCTV and there were a class above us but until we get Academy status we'll struggle to beat the likes of Liverpool at this level. As an Academy aren't they able to bring the cream of the crop from far and wide as opposed to local kids that we are limited to. Clearly need to improve our First team training facilities and that of our reserve and youth teams as was proposed for Melton in moving from Millhouse Woods Lane and County Road. Good effort young uns though for reaching the quarter finals.
There's plenty wrong with our youth system, I criticize it quite regularly on here, and I'm sure the coaches aren't perfect and could improve. But, our facilities are a shambles, throughout the club. The fact we have to go to a college up the road or Portugal to train when it snows because we don't have anywhere indoor shows that.
We built an extension for my office, shower room, toilet, tiny "courtyard", utility room, garage, bedroom with an area for my wife's office and a toilet.
Our Youth team was the only academy team in the last 8 who are not Cat 1 or applying for Cat 1 We are Cat 3 due to Facility's and funding not coaching. in our EPPP Audit the coaches sessions and planning was marked as excellent and on par with Cat 1 academy's. I don't understand Chazz ect. Coming out with such a sweeping statement when if anything we are punching above our weight and with one hand tied behind our back?
liked the look of the sutton lad as well. dont know why he was subbed as I thought he was a danger to them when he had to chance to run at their defence. must admit thou I was watching whilst trying ( and failing) to control the kids so I didnt give it my full attention
Rocky IV - Drago trains in the comfort of a gym; Balboa trains in the snow. Who won the fight eh? Let the lads train in the snow I say. What is the point in going to sunny Portugal to train when they have to play in freezing temperatures? Get em running up a snowy Hill 60 on Westwood
What Utter drivel and Tosh ^^^^ this. FACT. The main difference was certain Liverpool players had more quality and composure in the final 3rd. 3-0 scoreline was very harsh on Citys overall performance. Basic errors also helped Liverpool.
Well thats Chazz to a T. Bless the poor sod. The big PL money should help (in part) sort out better facilities for our youth hopefully. As for the KC pitch, wait until the Udders game. Now that is in a far worse state than the KC pitch.
Is being an u18 a full time job? I thought they went to school; I'm not sure they train as much as the first team. On the youth set up, we should have invested more money in it years ago. Some League One and Two clubs have a better set up than us. Perhaps if we go up, more money will be invested, coupled with the improved chances of recruitment that come with being a PL team.
Did you go to school until you were 18? It's their full time job and they're paid for it but they do a bit of education stuff as well because obviously most of them won't make it as pros. I don't know what qualifications they get but yeah they do some studying and are with the club full-time.
I think we all agree that money has to be spent on the youth set up. FFS, if its just the facilities that are stopping us from being Cat.1 status then get them sorted.
Care to name any of our youth system that have made the grade? Hardly punching above our weight in that department are we?
Ton Cairney and IMO Liam Cooper can still do if he puts his talent to better use. Conor Townsend is another that has the ability. But yes we do need more to come through now. From small seeds and all that......
Wasn't Cairney a product of the Leeds academy? I think Cooper is too good for League 2 but the fact is that's where's playing at the moment. Townsend has hardly made it yet either has he? Sort of proves my point that our youth set up is poor if those three are the best examples we can come up with. Compare that to say Leeds?
Yes Cairney was released by Leeds. Before he even gets mentioned, Paul Anderson was at WBA before us. For our set up you're probably looking at Wiseman and Donaldson as being two of the more high profile products, they're both playing at a higher level now than the club was at when they were with us. (ie they've ended up being better than a club in our position at the time should have been getting)
