Also if I am at the match I will write my report after the match giving my view on the players, join in the chat and have fun. Team News Gillingham could have a few players missing this Tuesday with Myles Weston 50/50, Chris Whelpdale doubtful after taking a knock on Saturday and Charlie Allen still out however Andy Frampton could return after recovering from his head injury. Other than that the rest of the team are fit. Exeter should have the same team as they did on Saturday when they drew 0-0 at Fleetwood. However they may still be without Alan Gow who was one of their main players earlier in the season. Past meetings Gillingham haven't got a good past record of playing away at Exeter as the last time they won there was in 1961 so a win is overdue by now. We don't have the greatest record against them of recent with 2 wins, 1 draw and 2 defeats in our last 5 meetings with Exeter. 04 Oct 2008 Exeter City v Gillingham L 3-0 League Two 24 Jan 2009 Gillingham v Exeter City W 1-0 League Two 05 Sep 2009 Gillingham v Exeter City W 3-0 League One 28 Dec 2009 Exeter City v Gillingham D 1-1 League One 19 Nov 2012 Gillingham v Exeter City L 2-3 League Two Our last match at Exeter was a 1-1 draw when we were in League 1 but that was during the season where we did not win away and these days Exeter are not good at home having only won 6 out of their 18 home games this season so it is possible that Gillingham can win this won as they have won 11 away from home only losing 1 and like us Exeter's good form has been away from home where they have matched us with 11 wins however they have lost 5 away from home and we have only lost 1. Our overall record against Exeter stands at 34 wins, 29 draws and 38 defeats so we have not done amazing against them but hopefully we will make that 35 wins with another win on Tuesday. Current league table As of 11.03.13 Gillingham sit top of League 2 after a win on Saturday they are now on 69 points after 36 games which is 5 points clear of 2nd place Port Vale who have also played one more game than us as they sit on 64 points after 37 games. Exeter have also had a good season after being relegated last season from League 2 but inconsistent form has seen them drop to 7th after 37 games with 59 points but they are only 3 points off 3rd place. HOADIEâS View on this match I think that this is tough as Exeter are another good side however they are not good at home so we should be winning however they should be fired up to get a result against us with us being top. However I think that we should take revenge after they won against us when we were at home earlier this season. We are so close to promotion now so I am thinking that our players will be fired up and will make it 2 wins in 2. The score line and scorers The score will be Exeter City 0-1 Gillingham with Deon Burton getting the goal for the Gills.
I think the team will be as followed; Nelson Fish Legge Barrett Martin Gregory Whelpdale/ Lee Robinson Dack Burton German I think that MA may go with Burton for this game as he was on the bench and Kedwell played 90 minutes, however I would personally go with Kedwell as Burton has not played well lately and was not that good when he come on Saturday. I think that if Whelpdale is injured then Lee will take his place in the team.
I really hope the snow don't hit Exeter as we don't want this called off, not with how many games we have left to the end of the season.
Time for the match. Kedwell out for Burton and Whelpdale out for East. Richardson drops off the bench with Frampton back on the bench.
This is really tough for the Gills 0-0 Cuerton has been tearing us apart but we are holding on with the occasional break.
0-0 final score but Port Vale lost and Burton won who climb upto 2nd on 65 points. We are 5 points clear but Rotherham are still playing and if their game stays as a draw then we will be 8 points clear of 4th place but what that will mean is the 3 teams below us have played 1 more game than us which is good.
Hoadie - I've just got home from the match !!!! Can I dispel your fears about Cureton. He wasn't tearing the defence apart. He made some good movement off the ball. There were a couple of times when his finishing ought to have been better - but he was substituted. The game was a fairly dull affair - the midfields cancelled out each other -hence the almost total lack of goalmouth action.* Legge was once again the pick of the defenders, who were reasonably comfortable. A draw was a fair result. In another thread I did say I'd be happy with 0-0. * edit - you really shouldn't be fooled by the 'official' statistics of shots - most were high & wide. In truth neither goalkeeper was seriously tested.
To be fair to Hoadie, I was restricted to watching the live text updates on the OS, and from that it seemed Exeter was using the tactic of the long ball over the top of the defence for the 'pacey' (their words) Cureton to run onto... They did say on more than one occasion that his pace was causing problems at the back.
The Shouting Man I think you'll find that the commentary was overdramatised - to compensate for the lack of real drama on the pitch ! There really wasn't much fuss about the balls 'over the defence' - they struggled to get past Legge.
