Should it be taken off Cattermole and given to Bardsley?

Player of the season, gives his all, hardly injured, plays with a lot of passion, surely a better option than Cattermole at the moment?

If the question was will it then no, but should it, depending on who comes in possibly.

Another contender SHOULD be Bramble, but I agree Syd it all depends who comes in pre season.

When Gordon's fit again, I'd say him, he seems to have authority and is one of our longest-serving players.

Steeeeeed could be worth a shout for club captain, he has been one of our best players this year in my opinion but just lacks the goals

Certainly has the experience, been at the club for a while now, same with Richardson.

Would keep as is. Just because a plyer tries hard like Bardsley doesn't neccesarily mean they are the most suited to lead the team. Bruce knows best what each players personality is like, and the most important thing is being able to talk to refs and have the respect of there peers. I'm sure they all get on very well, but why risk upsetting Catts when Bardsley hasn't done anything to warrant being captain?

Its noticable Bardsley has never been made captain whilst Cattermole has been out, perhaps the lad doesn't even want the position.

Bramble turns 30 in July.... So at the moment yes! Just highlights the need for experience within the team.

I wouldn't say Bardsley hasn't done anything to warrant being captain but I understand about not wanting to disrupt harmony within the club by removing Catts. I think it all depends on whether or not he can maintain fitness next season, I have no doubts he can be a great player and leader but he's not proved anything yet (partly down to injuries).

That's quite amazing really considering some sides like Fulham have an average age of 30+

But in terms of captaincy i'd say Bardsley or Bramble out of the current squad but maybe we'll sign somebody who'll be brought in as a captain.

Surely it has to be given to Messi when he signs?! :D

I know, I know, I'm dreaming there. Maybe Ronaldo though??

I don't think being club captain necessarily helps Catts' game. Ref's are only to happy to fire yellows at him as it is and as a captain when things aren't going a teams way or you disagree with something then it's your job to bring this to the attention of the ref. Unfortunately for Catts, he does this in a manner with arms flying all over the place and generally looking mighty pissed off and ready to pop. Just help's him pick up those cards in my opinion.

To be honest nobody jumps out at me and says they'd make a quality captain. I've heard Turner get mentioned, Bruce admits he's one of the quieter lads off the field and from what I've seen on him on the pitch he doesn't seem to utter a word. Not a captain in my eyes.

Bardo, excellent season, had to battle for his place at the start when let's be honest many, myself included thought he was surplus to requirements and wasn't premiership quality. I'd love to see Bruce sign a 'proper' left back though in the close season though (long overdue) and where does this leave Bardsley then?

For me, with the players we have getting back to full fitness it has to be Gordon at the minute and that's not ideal as keepers are obviously confined to one area of the pitch and therefore will miss a lot in other areas.

Maybe Bruce will have a captain on his shopping list??

If Samba signed he could make an excellent captain, not sure if he is the current Blackburn captain?

When he made it clear that he wanted to leave Blackburn he was stripped off the captaincy, with relegation looming though it has been returned to him. Obviously a leader, with a real presence about him on the pitch, if we could get him I think he'd fit right into the captains role.

Pretty sure Blackburn tied him into a new contract though when he said he wanted to leave so unless they're relegated (which I understand is still possible with some freakish results elsewhere) then I don't think he'd be cheap!

I think far too much emphasis is placed on an individual captain.

Personally, we need 4 or 5 captains on the pitch and players that can take responsibility for themselves. I'm happy for Catts to keep the official title, as he has done nothing wrong to lose it, or for Bardo to be given it either way.

What I am more interested in, is will either of them ever get to raise some silverware for the club. Thats my greatest hope and I dont care who does it so long as someone does.
