Do you think Steve is good enough for England ? Looking at the current crop of CB I believe he is as good as, if not better, than the majority and it would not surprise me to see him picked in a future squad. Unlike some current players I think he'd bust a gut to get a game and wouldn't let us down.
    Anyone agree?

He would be in the squad if not for his injuries.

    He's a solid defender.

I'm not so sure about the starting 11, but he should be in the squad.

Wouldn't argue about that, always been a fan of Saylor from his first appearance.

I think so, like Tash said he'd already be an international if it where not for injuries and his form and growing partnership with MYM is looking very promising.

He has no chance because for some reason England managers think Newcastle is in Scotland.

Which is ****ing annoying given some of Englands best ever players have come from the north east,

Speaks volumes for England managers and the know nothings at FA Headquarters.

He can't be talked about as international fodder at the minute

The lad has the ability but is injury prone, its such a shame as he is class
But how many games has he played since his return ???

I think nationally we lack quality at the back as I don't rate Cahill, jagieka
Smalling etc and the other potentials.

Taylor needs to play a full season injury free, fingers crossed this will
Happen but we can't suggest he is ready now

Steven Taylor and Dawson are the best english centre backs at the moment.

Good enough for me. But unless he can to Xmas 2013 without another long term injury then he can forget international honours. Managers won't risk it and rightly so. With international football you need to go with guys you can rely on so that some level of consistency/understanding can be built. Him and Dawson are two who would get in if they could stay fit.

Maybe worth a spot on the bench - not quite up to the standard of Cahill, Jagielka, and maybe Dawson for me.

People have quickly forgotten the shocking performance Taylor put in against Southampton (and for a couple of moments vs swansea)! He's been class otherwise though.

I feel for Stevie. I seem to remember him being linked with all the top clubs just a few years back, and for no small reason, he is a terrific centre back. The championship season he was head and shoulders above most. He was commanding and the partnership with Colo started to flourish. Unfortunately, injuries will always plague him, and with the adequate competition already established England players now, I don't think he'll get his chance.

I think he's on a par with the likes of Dawson and Jaggy, and a fundamentally better defender than Cahill. But even if the England camp shared my opinions, maybe it would ruin him to play for England. So many of our players in recent history, with similar injury troubles, have been!

Too good for England, better to have him focused on playing every week and performing well for Newcastle.

I can see it being an honor for him (although merely for professional recognition frankly) but long gone are the days I wanted NUFC players in the England squad.

Makes absolutely no odds these days and I'd rather all of them didn't play internationals at all for risk of injuries.

England games and those god awful friendlies we insist on packing in to pay for Wembley just disrupt the Prem campaign anyway...
