It doesn't surprise me that Obertan is linked with a potential move away. If he does go, I'll than him for his service... but hope we can replace him with a much more consistent player.

Newcastle United are already setting their summer transfer targets up and fans won't be surprised that the club has again been looking in France to get further bargains. Alan Pardew has brought in several French players for excellent prices and the tactic appears to be working for them so there's no reason why they'd need to change. Other clubswill no doubt have been watching what they did in the last transfer market but Newcastle are already ahead in the French market and want to use that advantage again.

France Info has this evening reported that Liverpool are looking at PSG's Jeremy Menez ahead of a possible summer move and they state that the club have competition from Newcastle United but that Pardew will want to move some players on first before jumping into his summer spending. Gabriel Obertan is stated as being the most likely departure and that's no surprise given his struggle to get into the team.

After a few promising glimpses early at Manchester United, Obertan has struggled to get any consistency in the English game and has also been hampered by niggling injuries. He's only started 3 Premier League games for the side so far this season and made a further 9 substitute appearances. Since January, and after the influx of new signings, he's struggled to get a look-in and hasn't got off the bench in a league game since the match against Reading on January 19th.

Newcastle may have a problem finding a club willing to pay a transfer fee and match his wages. If he was to return to France then he wouldn't be able to command anything like the salary he'll be on with the Premier League club and that could prove to be a problem. His contract runs until 2016.

Always feel sorry for Obertan, as said, we've only ever seen glimpses of what he can/ should be doing, I would wish him well as he seems a nice lad, poor lad gets referred to as our 'Hard Hat Tester', amongst the group where I sit. :emoticon-0111-blush

A crisis of confidence is acceptable but this lad has been getting paid huge amounts of money to contribute relatively little to our cause!

He is truly one of the most frustrating players we've had in a long time and I won't be particularly sad to see him go!

Good news if we can ship him off for Menez then all we need to do is Colo for Sakho, Willo for J Spence (WHUFC) and bring in a striker cheap/free we could have one hell of a squad!

Think his replacement is already at the club in gouffran. We will be going for a higher profile striker in the summer and If that is the case the gouffran is a natural successor to what Obertan is supposed to be doing.

The guy tries and isn't without a certain amount of skill, he just isn't the cleverest of players and sometimes has no end product.

Frustrating as hell and no bottle whatsoever. He needs to move on, Gouffran has come into the team and shown very clearly what Obertan should have been contributing, but sadly has not.

When he's had his chance to stake a claim to a first team place, he hasn't taken it, very disappointing.

Just not strong enough mentally and no final ball. I've tried to be patient as he has shown glimpses of ability but he would be on my out list.

Terrific pace but the minute he gets the ball at his feet he's baffled as to what to do with it. Final ball is atrocious and I for one will not miss him. Last week against Stoke he was pathetic.

Maybe he'd do a good job for a team in the Championship.

Not sure if he's got what it takes for the Championship to be honest AB, I thought referees overseeing the games in the Championship allowed some pretty robust challenges to go unchecked, it seems a much more physical game, not sure if it's quite Obertan.

He's got some of the basics right, head down, body over the ball, eye on the ball, the only thing wrong is he forgets to look up to see what options he's got.

yup, I would wish him well, but he hasn't really made the grade here. seems to try hard though and I will always give a player credit who tries, not every player can make the grade and no scouting system is perfect

another reason to follow the maxim: never by a player from Fergie. He is an annoying twat but he knows talent when he sees it, and sells players on when he doesn't
