Saw the below article and thought I'd put it out there to you boys and girls to see if you agree with him.
    Personally I agree 100%.
We have momentum right now and that will ensure a respectable mid place finish IMHO.

Alan Pardew sure of Newcastle's Premier League safety

Manager Alan Pardew has said Newcastle United's 2-1 home win against Stoke City has addressed any fears of Premier League relegation this season.
Nine points separate the Magpies from the drop zone and that cushion is timely going into Thursday's Europa League tie with Anzhi Makhachkala.
"That's done, we won't worry about that now," Pardew told BBC Newcastle.
"What we've done is set ourselves up for what I'm hoping is going to be a special night for us."
Pardew added: "We've set the scene for that and I can't wait already. I hope we get as many people as we can afford to come to fill the place up."
In progressing through the play-offs, the group stages, the first knock-out round and the first leg of the last-16 tie in the Europa League, Pardew's side have now played 11 matches.
Added to existing domestic commitments in the Capital One Cup, the FA Cup and the Premier League, the squad needed to carefully managed, particularly with injuries to senior players Steven Taylor, Hatem Ben Arfa, Yohan Cabaye and Tim Krul throughout the season.
"We've approached it in an intelligent way," Pardew added.
"In a way that we have dealt with the team as it comes, put a team out that is good enough, and we've had to do that.
"We've had so many injuries that we had to put out the team that we had.
"There are too many games, but now we're at the nitty gritty - the real serious business, playing against real quality.
"I'll play my best team - that win [against Stoke] has helped me do that."

    Yes.

It's debatable whether the bottom 3 will pick up 9 points from their 9 games. They won't pick up more than abut 13.

Even with serious Euro hangovers, I can't see us picking up fewer than half a dozen.

I will be happy when we have or are very near the magic 40pts.

I can see what he means. I think we are as good as safe. Unless we lose every single game from now on of course!

He said in his post match interview with nufctv that he thinks we'll need 7 points from the 9 games to ensure safety:

    Premier League

    Wigan V Newcastle
    Man City V Newcastle
    Newcastle V Fulham
    Newcastle V Sunderland
    West Brom V Newcastle
    Newcastle V Liverpool
    West Ham V Newcastle
    QPR V Newcastle
    Newcastle V Arsenal

We need to win 2 and draw 1 of those - that's pretty realistic for me.

If we beat Anzhi on Thursday we have that boost in confidence and the feel good factor continues, if not, we have a full squad to focus on the rest of the campaign. We're safe IMO.

This is based on the magic 40 points - - a sensible enough position for him to stick to when speaking publicly, but not anywhere near necessary in my view. The bottom 3 have 24 points. If they all went on unbeaten runs for the remainder of the season, winning at home and drawing away (if, that is to say, they suddenly developed Champions League form) then they would get 42 points.

An average point haul of 1.5 per game would be excellent for anyone in the lower have of the table. That produces 13 or 14 points from the last 9 games. I'd be very surprised if any of the bottom 3 manage that.

We'd have to be incredibly unlucky looking at the games we still have, to not be safe.
I can see one or two of the teams we're still to play that will see us as their 'Winnable' games, we're missing Colo for a few weeks yet, Raylor due back, but this has been one of our worst seasons for injuries, and lack of spending in the early part of the season has held us back, but I genuinely feel like we're 'Good to Go now', we've got too much quality in the side now.

I'm prepared to bet anybody that we'll get at least ten points from those games.

Looking at the table we seem safe and I fully believe we can stay up while playing our strongest squads in Europe. There are at least 4 "winnable" games left maybe 5 (the derby is very unpredictable) and we should be able to pick up 9 points regardless before the end of the season.

Its too early to say we are safe, although the signs are very good. I'm not going to bring a curse on our team by counting our chickens. Having said that, another win in the next few games should make us very difficult to catch.

I agree which means that we're currently not safe. A promising position, I would admit, but safe? No. Not yet.

If Wigan lose their game in hand (which I think is away to Man City) then yes, otherwise as above

Ah, the reason for the less confidence is that it wasn't too long ago when there was supposedly "too much quality in the side" and the slide just kept on sliding...

Once bitten and all that. I am quietly confidenct that Newcastle won't go down but until I check the numbers and fixtures myself and know that barring a five point penalty for some reason* then I won't be declaring 'safe'.

(* for example, someone in the FA discover that Kinnear is still the manager and due to some strange FA Law, Pardew is declared a fraudulant figure and thus the Toon get a points deduction. It's been too long since we've had a stupid incident at StJP and this sort of magnitude is what I am half expecting to come out of the woodwork)

Probably because we don't have the same Big Club mentality as QPR <whistle>

Pardew has a nack of over talking things, why put additional pressure on himself, there was no need to say it, I understand he thinks that

Since Sissoko started showing us what he can do, and we've generally starting playing a bit better, I've been less worried about the worst. The bottom line is that we're not safe yet but we're looking like we'll pull clear of the bottom 6.

    I think we'll finish around mid-table. I'd take 10th.

I think we now have enough to stay up. A few weeks back I was very worried but 4 wins in the last 6 league games has made a huge difference. We have a good team spirit and decent choices in most positions now, with competition fir places bar goalie ( due to injuries) and centre forward.

Not sure whether we'll finish top half, but expect to be around 9 points clear of relegation by the end of the season.
