Now that's a lucky man! http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-glasgow-west-13451397 A man who won more than ã350,000 after placing a 50p each-way bet has been described by bookie William Hill as their "luckiest ever punter". The single father from Glasgow, who wishes to remain anonymous, hit the jackpot with a seven-horse accumulator. The man, who has not worked for five years after heart surgery, said he was shocked and said his brain was "a wreck". He intends to buy his own home and visit his sisters abroad. He said: "I'm shocked. I regularly place these little bets and everyone tells me I'm mad. "I've hit the bar a few times but this is incredible. "My brain was a wreck and I couldn't understand the balance on my account. I first thought it would pay about ã21,000 and had to get my son to come and translate that the numbers meant I'd actually won ã353,000." The lucky winner placed his 50p each-way accumulator on seven horses running at Brighton, Nottingham, Towcester and Kempton. A spokesman for William Hill said: "He's our luckiest ever punter."
Message I got from William Hill: We were rueing our luck yesterday after one of our online customers took us for a cool ã353,000 for just a ã1 wager! Placing his 50p each-way accumulator online, the customer placed his bets on last nightââ¬â¢s horse-racing action, selecting seven horses from the nightââ¬â¢s meetings. Thanks to our Best Odds Guaranteed concession, the payout was over double the amount that might be paid out at a rival bookies. Any customer that places a bet on UK & Irish horse racing with Hills and takes an early-price will be guaranteed the larger return if the SP odds are bigger! Our lucky punter will now net over ã353,224 - that's a 44% bigger payout than the SP accumulator and nearly four-times more than the prices the client took when placing the bet.
Crikey, I made it ã353,064.77 for the win acc. That means a measly ã159.83 for the place acc. Incredible when you look at it like that (unless I've done my sums incorrectly).
