You said that about my proposed 4-4-2 for the Saints game too. Mind you, I did have Fabio playing in both full back positions! Seriously though, we might have to revert to a 5-man midfield at the Villa.
and Remy running onto a flick on before Zamora even won it, taking the gamble the ball would come to him instead of standing there like a plank like our previous players did.
I think we will play 4-5-1 at Villa. It was a really old fashioned game today. Both sides playing 4-4-2, which allowed both sides room in midfield. Although, O'neal changed it after 10 minutes of the 2nd half, taking off Graham, putting Rose to left back and Colback to midfield. Now they were lined up as I expected them to from the start and they bossed the game for the next 10 minutes with that extra man in midfield.
That's a very good way to put it actually. It felt like watching our team of the early nineties today and I really enjoyed it! You're right that the 4-4-2 is largely redundant today as the game has evolved but every now and then it can be deployed to good effect.
I see where your coming from totally. He certainly has the clinical finishing of Sir Les. I'm hoping he becomes a Sir Les and Thierry Henry hybrid kinda thing. That will do me fine.
Nice read lads ... It's good it's all coming together hope we can all understand why Harold had to tighten up first before we start to play our way out of this ... Now Villa
Can see Mackie coming in for Bobby versus Villa. More energy, but with still some attacking flair....but a shame because Remy needs someone to win and hold/flick on the ball...Betty doesn't quite make the cut...
Not sure I entirely agree Beth, I'd love Mackie to come in and do exceptionally well, but I fear his performances of late haven't quite come up to standard. Betty meanwhile did a good holding job at Southampton & probably deserves another start, but I am torn between heart & head. Ahhhhh! What a paradox.
Why would Mackie come in for Zamora Vs Villa? Is bobby injured? Edit: Oh yeh...the injections. I reckon Harry probably exaggerated that a bit. BZ managed 73 minutes, and i can't imagine he'd have been risked if there was any genuine chance he'd worsen the ankle- it was probably just a bit sore. I'm sure he'll be alright for villa, and afterwards there's a 2 week break to regain more fitness.
He couldn't really jump much, which is the hip problem I believe. TBH, Betty must feel a bit hard done by. Played quite well last week and scored the winner, but then is replaced by a 60% fit bloke.
I think Betty played really well against Southampton and IF Zamora is injured then play Betty the guy is a big lad and will win more headers than Mackie who for all his running is not cutting it at moment and is more likely to run into blind alleys than lay it off.
I didn't think he needed to jump to fulfill his role really. He's good at backing into opposition defenders whilst waiting for punts up field reach him- so more manhandles them than out-jumps them! As long as he can bring the rest of the side into the game with his hold up play, then he merits a starting position imo.
