Chalk two up to Levy in that two of the four highest point/minute ratios are Gylfi and Dempsey. I'm particularly pleased Gylfi has hit his stride on the team the moment they needed players other than Bale to score.
I hope Lawro's right and they do put two on Bale,it leaves the others free to score. I don't know why he hates AVB as he is as yet an unknown quantity in the PL without a full season under his belt. I'm looking forward to our last 10 matches to see what he and we are made of. If and it's a big if we get a two goal win we'll sail into the CL with hardly a defeat from now until then.
I'm fairly nervous about our backline, Walker has just proved to be a liability time and time again this season, and the pace of Suarez and Sturridge could cause us real problems with our high line, especially considering how Walcott managed to get beyond us time and time again in the first half against Arsenal. Saying that, we dealt with it all match, but all it takes is one goal to knock us off our feet.
I'm quite concerned about this game; 'Pool are improving week on week and have amassed quite a strong front line with Suarez, Coutinho and Sturridge, the latter whom Spurs should have signed. If Spurs lose, it opens up the race for the top 4 If Spurs draw, then Spurs become increasingly stronger favourites for a top 4 finish If Spurs win, its almost a guarantee they will finish in top 4 The Quarters of the Europa League are 4th and 11th April. Spurs play Everton and Chelsea following those two games. The Semis of the Europa League are on the 25th of April and 2nd May. Spurs play Wigan and Southampton following those two games. Of course this depends on whether or not Spurs make it to the Quarters or the Semis. We definitely want Chelsea to qualify to the quarters (but not play us!).
HOLTBY ON LIVERPOOL: Lewis Holtby is preparing for 'a dream game' at Liverpool on Sunday. If selected, it will be the first time the midfielder snapped up from Schalke in January has appeared at Anfield. It will mean that little more to Lewis as well as he revealed recently that his father, Christopher, is an Everton fan! Both teams are in fine form. Liverpool have scored goals galore - 20 - in their last five wins in the Premier League and are up to seventh on a run of two defeats in their last nine. We are on a run of 12 matches unbeaten in the Premier League and travel to Merseyside looking for a fifth win on the trot in league action, form that has seen us climb up to third. “It’s a dream game, a fantastic game for us and another three points to aim for,” said Lewis. “Anfield is a stadium I’ve always dreamed of playing in, it’s third against seventh and a really tough game but one we’re all looking forward to.” Lewis came on for the last 20 minutes of Thursday night’s 3-0 win against Inter Milan in the Europa League Round of 16, first leg. “It was a fantastic performance, the first half was incredible,” he said. “We had so much space and we created so many chances, we could have scored more goals. Brad Friedel did his job as well. We’re in great form and we’ve got to maintain it.”
And it's not good news. Sturridge fit but Lennon not. If Bale plays through the middle we will have no width. I fear!
By Steve Wilson Liverpool pair Daniel Sturridge and Martin Skrtel are available to face Tottenham after recovering from injury. Sturridge has overcome a thigh problem and could make his first appearance since 17 February, while Skrtel is likely to be a substitute. Tottenham winger Aaron Lennon is doubtful after suffering a hamstring injury against Inter Milan. Emmanuel Adebayor returns to the squad after missing Thursday's game because of a knee problem. Tom Huddlestone and Clint Dempsey are doubts with respective knee and calf injuries.
Doubtful... not out! lets keep our fingers crossed. That's so annoying . Apparently AVB asked Lennon on Thursday if he wanted to stay on, or come off. He said he wanted to stay on... and as a result, picked up an injury. Typical. My team today would be: HL KW MD JV BAE SP MD GS GB LH JD
Like I said -no width. Put JL alongside SP and have GB on the left with MD moving further forward. LH on the bench.
"Apparently AVB asked Lennon on Thursday if he wanted to stay on, or come off. He said he wanted to stay on" I would expect the manager to call the shots, period. Bale and Lennon were the two I wanted off first at 3-0 up.
Part of me wants Holtby to start as he has the kind or energy and tenacity that will be needed today for sure, but he has also shown an impetuous side to his play which, with the pressure of the occasion on him could be costly....... Hopefully Azza will be fit - maybe even to come off the bench. Would be loathe to separate Scotty and Moussa as they appear to be developing a real understanding - and that solidity in front of the back four will be vital.
So would I. But this was the case unfotunately. The commentators joked about it. What about KW on the right wing with KN at right back?
I have long harboured thoughts about KW at RM. He would need better crossing though. One for AVB to give a competitive try in the pre-season or domestic/UEFA ties against lesser opposition. Certainly not in the business end of the PL campaign.
It might be nitpicking since none of our attackers stick to a position anyway but I'd have Bale starting on the left with Holtby moving across from wing to win helping out.
Afternoon lads, Liverpool fan here. Looking forward to today's game. We seem to have improved of late with three straight wins in all competitions but as always with Liverpool, consistency is the big problem. We go on a winning run like this and we nearly always pull out a poor performance and get beat! Which is very annoying indeed! That's my big worry for today especially with yourselves coming to Anfield in some very good form. I don't feel I need to talk too much about Bale's threat as it's already very well-known but I think if my team is to get a positive result, it's Moussa Dembele who we need to look at. Stop his supply to the likes of Bale & Lennon and I would feel a bit more confident about getting a good result. With Sturridge back in the fold, I think we'll score but I also think you'll score as well! 2-2 is my prediction. Here's to a good game!
Chris: I'll take the 2-2. Where do I sign? You look really good with Sturridge-he makes a huge difference. Unbelievable that Chelsea let him go. I wish we would have bought him.
I said at the time that I thought it was a big mistake of Chelsea to sell Sturridge to Liverpool. He's allowed Suarez to play a more natural game, drifting around more and also giving him somebody to play off. Suarez + Sturridge + £15m = Torres.
