I always listen to their show and the Alan brazil show beforehand. Did I hear Deano right did he say Leigh Palin was the best midfielder he played with?
That's what he said. Wasn't a bad session...bit of humility thrown in....generally speaking Deano came across very well imo...seems to be sorting himself out, which is great. Even the toughest players probably have a hard time reconciling their (short) career has come to an end. For myself, I wish him well...brought me a lot of pleasure
I wonder if Leigh Palin says the same thing because I always thought Deano was a fantastic midfielder before he was pushed up front to ease a striker crisis and was an instant success. Palin was also one of the best midfielders I've seen play for City with a fabulous range of passes in his repertoire. I'm not sure if it's the case or not but I'm sure someone once told me that the main reason he never made it at a higher level was because he was difficult to manage. A real shame because he was a massive talent. One of the few, if not the only player that Stan Ternent brought in that was actually any good. Last I heard (about 10/12 years ago) he was playing for Immingham or some similar South Bank outfit. As an example of Ternent's alternative transfer efforts, I give you Tony Finnegan; if he was only one tenth as good as he thought he was, he'd have been better than Messi! I, like I'm guessing most Tiger's fans wish Deano all the best and hope he can find himself the right niche within the game and get his life back on track. So many great memories, such as him scoring a very clever goal at home to Bradford and then getting sent off for foul and abusive language a few minutes later, whilst we were still in the first half! Still nothing will ever surpass that goal at Wembley.
I just dont remember Palin been that good compared to some players Windass must have played with im sure he played with some of these Merson, Parlour, Juninho maybe Gazza at Boro. I might be wrong on that though
Im sure plenty of players are difficult to manage but if your good enough someone will take a chance wont they?
C'mon Leigh Palin didn't play that many games for City to be regarded other than a poor man's Billy Askew..
Could it be cos he's playing. For Leigh palins team at the moment and been a bit ahem forgetful its the only one he can remember?
Hmm yes Billy had a fantastic left peg, great player and did a lot more for the club than Palin ever did but I was just talking about Palin's all round talent as a CM and playmaker. Just one of those who never fully lived up to his obvious abilities. Deano was a tremendous CM also with just as much ability until he was converted to a striker. Once he started finding the back of the net regularly though, there was no turning back!
Leigh Palin could have been a world beater. He was one of the most gifted players I had seen at that time but he had a really unprofessional attitude. Bit of a piss artist and that ruined his career. We didnt see the best of him at City but had he had his head screwed on he waould have been one of the best players in the country back then.
Deanos playing on and off for Walkington FC that Leigh manages. He also works part time for the company Leigh works for.
