So what did Button do to justify him taking Hamers place yesterday. Nothing against him but.... Let in a goal that no one would of saved made 1 decent save fumbled 1 in the first half that luckily we weren't punished for. So a Hamer performance he was no better or worse
I much prefer Button to Hamer,he deserved to be dropped after a number of mistakes. The goalkeeping position is the least of our problems at the moment.Midfield and up top are where we are weak.Team I would play on Tuesday if everyone is fit.4-4-2 Button Solly(if fit),Cort,Morrison,Wiggins Green,Wilson,Stephens,Waggy Fuller,Haynes Subs.Hamer,Evina,Taylor,Pritchard,Harriott,Obika,Hughes
Fair enough but if his first half fumble lead to a goal yesterday should he of been dropped for Tuesday ? Hamer has probably made 4 errors that have lead to goals in 2 seasons.. Maybe that's CP's rational on Waggy if he makes 2 mistakes in a game he's out. I think he was after fuller our best player at palace yet dropped the next week BUT he did get tackled 3 times during the game CP is a hard task master.
Just watched it too. No wonder they lost with that strip at home. Apart from Killie being my other team I wanted to see how our triallist Clingan played. His name was on the team-sheet but did he actually play? Don't think we missed anything there.
Fuller and Haynes were dreadful yesterday along with the new geezer so surely non should start on Tuesday
Should never of off loaded BWP hind site yes but fact. The dropping Fuller and Haynes was sarcasm to be honest at the fruitility of dropping Hamer yesterday and Waggy always the scapegoat
Button deserves a few games to show what he can do. I don't reckon we'd have bought him if Pope hadn't got his injury but we did and let's see if he's better than Hamer.
Button made two or three Hamer-like fumbles on Saturday. One which was a routing catch, he caught it, then dropped it and caught it again. Another which was almost identical to Hamer's mistake the previous week (which I assume was the reason he was dropped) but which Wilson slid in and cleared before anything could come of it. I believe there was another mistake in front of the Jimmy Seed stand, but I'm too far away to have seen it clearly. My one moment of praise for him was one point where he launched head-first at a players feet to grab the ball (at very high speed). Distribution was poor compared to Hamer. Give him another couple of games, if he doesn't improve then stick Hamer straight back in.
They are both very young. Most goalkeepers don't peak until their late twenties. For example, Ben Foster at 29 is now the player Man Utd thought he was 8 years ago.
If Hamer can keep developing at the rate he has (he's twice the player this season as he was last year), then I can see him easily being a upper/mid-table Premier League keeper. He needs to iron out one or two things: his handling of the ball, his coming for crosses (coming for corners he's fine though). Aside from those, the only thing holding him back is the rarity with which he makes 'worldy' saves - something which, despite his many flaws, Rob Elliott did very frequently.
Never liked Button, don't know why he just seemed arrogant and slicked back. Hamer may moan at his defenders and people say he's arrogant but all keepers moan at Defenders. Button has no right to be arrogant he was a sub keeper, he just seemed it to me. Hamer has flapped, always has, but i think he's a quality keeper in the making. Hamer makes mistakes everyone does, his seem to come in two's, he had Hull and Forest (forest was a poor mistakes but one EVERY keeper in the world has made at least once). Would play Hamer any day, never drop one then again I am a member of the Goal Keeper's Union
I say chaps we have Nick Pope as well. When he gets his chance there won't be any more arguments about who is our no.1.
I think hamer would admit that he deserved to be dropped. Sometimes players come off better for it. But in the meantime we should back button. Oh and the entire team.
He could have done better with the 2 goal for 'Boro the other day, but aside from that he was solid. Irritated me a bit though, about ten minutes into the first half he seemed to signal to the fans on the terrace to keep the ball for a bit when it went out for a goalkick.
