From Russia with snub - Samba delighted QPR turned down £14m bid Wednesday, March 6, 2013 12:30 PM Chris Samba is relieved that Queens Park Rangers turned down a bid from an unnamed Russian club that could have made his stay in west London a short one. . .. Râs boss Harry Redknapp revealed that a £14million offer had been tabled at the weekend â the Russian transfer deadline - for the centre back which would have made the Premier League strugglers an instant profit on him. The 28-year-old, who joined the Loftus Road outfit for a club record £12.5million fee at the start of the year from Anzhi Makhachkala, admitted his delight that Rangers owner Tony Fernandes rebuffed the mammoth bid. âAll the money in the world cannot make you happy if you donât have your family with you,â said Samba, who was this week called into the Congo national side. âI came back to be with my family. Life needs to have both sides - enjoy your football and have your loved ones close to you. âI have no plans to go back to Russia.â Rangersâ survival hopes were boosted on Saturday with a 2-1 victory at fellow relegation candidates Southampton. It was only their third win of the campaign but moved them to within four points of safety with some crucial clashes against lowly placed Sunderland and Aston Villa to come this month. Samba says he is fully committed to helping his new club avoid the trap door back to the Championship. âIâm a Rangers player and I will give 100 per cent to this club,â he said. âPeople have said to me if Rangers go down it could be a springboard to another move. Maybe thatâs true but I donât think like that.â Meanwhile, QPR keeper Julio Cesar has been called into the Brazil squad for their two forthcoming international friendlies against Italy and Russia this month. The South Americans take on Italy in Genève, Switzerland, on March 21 and then play Russia at Chelseaâs Stamford Bridge ground four days later.
Sorry not to do with OP but once again the surreal sensation of reading that the QPR No 1 keeper is called up for the Brazil squad! Makes me feel slightly dizzy!!!
If this is correct, and transfer fee we would have got from Zenit would of been only £14m, then it would of been absolutely laughable to have sold him within a month of signing him. I'm surprised to see that this even got raised as a story to be honest. Let me see, £1.5 mill in the pot and guaranteed relegation, or getting in a quality replacement for Nelly at centre back and giving ourselves a chance of staying up?? Hmmm, toughie...
What he said; 'People have said to me if Rangers go down it could be a springboard to another move. Maybe that's true but I don't think like that'. What I wanted him to say; 'no way am I looking to leave this club if we go down. I signed a contract and I'm sticking to it'.
I wouldn't read it that way GC. He implies that he'd have reluctantly gone back to Russia if we'd sold him and I get the feeling he thinks the same way about a domestic transfer. It sounds like it's our call. Besides, who's getting relegated?
Now that would have been good business after just a month - we need him though if we are to stand any sort of chance of staying up, and that's worth £100 million. Perhaps $25 million, which sort of equates, given the exchange rate?
he dosent have to think like that that's why he has an agent then IF he leaves he can have tears in his eyes
