Anytime now. Thanks to his general play, and that bell end of a referee against Birmingham booking him for kicking the ball away when what he actually did was play to the whistle, Meyler is now on 9 yellow cards for the season. 1 more before the second Sunday in April and it's a 2 game ban. So, when do we want him to pick it up (assuming he's not going to go 6 games without doing it)? Burnley Forest Huddersfield Watford Middlesbrough Ipswich ---deadline--- Wolves Bristol C Barnsley Cardiff PO1 PO2 POFinal The head says Burnley, so that he only misses Forest and Huddersfield whilst we've got a fully fit squad and he's then back for Watford and M'boro. Although then he'd have 7 games when he came back, and if we ended up in the playoffs he'd have 9 games during which another 5 yellows would mean a 3 match ban. At the same time the heart says that if he makes it as far as the Ipswich game and then gets booked, when he comes back from suspension there will only be 2 league games left, which means even if he got booked every game and we were only in the playoffs he's be unable to pick up another suspension for this season (other than for red cards). That means going 5 games without a booking now though. EDIT: If at Burnley he gets sent off for 2 yellow cards he only gets a 1 game ban, but when he comes back he's still on 9 yellow cards.
I know this isn't going to happen but does that mean if he manages no more cards till Ipswich and gets a yellow in that game he might as well get another yellow in the last minute so he only gets a one game ban?
You can't blame the ref for his booking against Birmingham. It had gone over the line, the ref blew the whistle and Meyler booted the ball away. I'd rather he got it over and done with as soon as possible.
His bookings have been so avoidable too. They're always stupid late challenges that he's never going to win. If you're going to get booked you want to see someone clattered
Yes, not that we'd condone that though. That would also leave him 6 cards away from a 3 match ban when he came back, rather than being 5 cards away if he didn't intentionally get sent off. NB: I am assuming I haven't missed him already having a red card this season. If he did then he'd get the one for 2 yellow cards, and then an additional game for it not being his first red card. (you get one extra game for each previous red card)
Not sure that he's up to speed yet to be able to play that role as any more than a late substitute. If Cairney and Evans are still injured and he isn't up to speed then there's always Bruce Junior!
