I was also at the Oakwell match - I remember arriving very early in the rain. The referee poked his head around the Barnsley Supporters Club door to say that they needed help to fork the pitch otherwise the match was in doubt. One of the few away pitches I was on that season without doing the knees-up after the game. Incidentally, Winstanley scored both the goals in a 2-1 win for Barnsley at Vicarage Road earlier in the season - again after Watford were winning 1-0 (Owen scoring the fastest goal ever there - 12 seconds!!!). The game at Masfield was memorable only for the debagging of a female PC (not by me....) in a 3-0 defeat. The other game was the infamous battle of the Kennel - 3 players sent off, Watford fans invading the pitch trying to dig up the penalty spot at the Oak Road End, woman taken to hospital with a broken back, "fans" fighting for 3 hours before, during and after the game............. Anyway back to Sheffield Wednesday at home - never the easiest of games against a Yorkshire club only marginally less evil than their neighbours from Elland Road. Narrow win this one to take us back to 2nd place after Palace & Hull draw.
Going to be a toughy, certainly if they set up to contain us and counter - am going to go for a very nervy 2-1 win! Deeney and FF to score!
certainly not going to be the score-fest that it was at their place, but i'm sure we can nick it...3-1
I think I'll go with your prediction too H. Going to be a tough one but we'll eventually win it with a couple of late goals. COYH!
Cheers for the changes H and hopefully this is now connected to newsnow to see if we can get more pople on the board. More importantly though 3 points please against some tough Owls who can play away. Just some some other team I know.....
Why is it more nerve-wracking being in the top three than in the bottom three? I was not nearly so wound -up before games this time last season , when we were still in a relegation fight.
Going again tonight, COYH!! Really looking forward to it. Don't let me down golden boys. I want goals goals goals, not just the one and conceed last minute!!
I do see where you are coming from. However, it was alwas the bottom of the table that made me wince, sometimes I couldn't bear to cheack results. As I felt there was much much more at steak, even the future of the club.
Now you mention it, I remember that too! The last I heard, the nailed-on prime suspect for that was living down New Forest way - haven't heard of him for years.
with you on that...every game seems like the most important game ever! my nails are bitten to nothing..and there's still so far to go!
Over the time I have been supporting Watford, I have seen 8 promotions and 6 relegation seasons. I kid myself that I have become blase about the results and league position and I don't care so much about defeats anymore. Then I watch them concede a last minute goal at Molyneux (on the TV admittedly) and I am jumping up, shouting and cursing and I am hurting badly for the next couple of days at the points we have just thrown away. But of course I will stay calm and collected for the Wednesday match - won't I?
Got to beat the Owls, got an aggregate bet with a mate from home, thank god we are cruising 1-4 !! lol COYH !!!
I hope that GFZ has impressed on the players that although Sheffield are low in the table their recent results until Saturday were good and they have beaten the three top six sides they have played in 2013 - if he does that so we are not complacent I can see us winning - but if they go into the match as if a win is a foregone conclusion it could become rather sticky
line-up v Sheff Wed: Bond; Ekstrand, Nosworthy, Cassetti; Anya, Abdi, Hogg, Battocchio, Pudil; Deeney, Vydra. subs: Bonham, Yeates, Doyley, Murray, Geijo, Chalobah and Forestieri. A couple of unexpected changes there. Not to mention a change in captain - Deeney?
CHAMPIONSHIP PREVIEW There is the potential for a real cracker at Vicarage Road tonight, with third place Watford hosting second place Hull in the Championship. Just two points separate the two sides, meaning a win for the home side will ensure they leapfrog their opponents into the automatic promotion places. If the game fails to live up to expectations, however, there is always the prospect of a bit of celeb spotting for fans with Hollywood actress Mila Kunis said to be in attendance... Elsewhere, Peterborough host Charlton and a win could move them out of the bottom three, while a big game in the North West - Bolton v Blackburn rather than a certain other game going on at Old Trafford.
