From my experience, plus my kids, with the correct prescribed medication (e.g. Novo-Pen-VK 500 300MG), strep throat starts to clear up within 24 hrs, although it is important to complete the full 10 day course of medication. This is a sore throat that doesn't get better by itself. Found this article on strep throat topic:- Trying to Recover from Strep Throat as Quickly as Possible "I had a week long cold which seemed like it was just about to end until I woke up at about 7:30 yesterday with a sore throat feeling on the left side of my throat. It got progressively worse and eventually I came home early from school yesterday with severe nausea. I napped for a short time then woke up and vomited, this pattern repeated throughout the night and I ended up vomiting five times, I also have diarrhea and was running a fever of 99.3 yesterday. I visited the doctors this morning and was diagnosed with strep throat, I've been put on antibiotics (Novo-Pen-VK 500 300MG) and have started to feel better, my nausea and vomiting had subsided and my diarrhea has improved alot but my throat is still very painful, I have to spit out saliva because it is too painful to swallow. Is there anything I can do to recover form this more quickly,I really don't want to be missing anymore school, I wanted to go back tomorrow but my doctor insisted I don't because I'm still infectious."
Cerny old pal. Sorry to hear you're not well. Seems we had something similar here at ChezSku mansions - it started a week ago Thursday with our youngest, then the middle son, and by last weekend they'd passed it onto our eldest and mum too. The boys are just about over it, but the wife is still very bad. I'm sure she's quietly resenting the fact that thus far, I've avoided it. I don't know how, though I swear by a peppermint tea for breakfast [nothing else] when I'm feeling a little under the weather. I started this about four years ago - tasted vile - but now I've got used to it - I can even drink it cold. No doubt these will be my famous last words and I'll succumb later this week, but a bit like QPR on Saturday, my antibodies are not having a bar of it - none shall pass! Get well soon old Cerny cat. Chin up old fellow.
Antibiotics can shave about a day off recovery but if the pain is too bad, paracetamol should help ease it. If it ain't shifted within a couple of days, see your GP as they should be able to confirm and treat it.
Yes, definitely see the GP for a proper diagnosis, but from experience, strep throat does not heal by itself and after 24 hrs on antibiotics you are generally on your road to recovery.
All this depends if it is step throat and so bacterial (therefore antibiotics) or virial (Antibiotics worse than no good). You need to see a doctor Cerny to get a REAL diagnosis. A SWIMMING POOL in YOUR flat complex...what sort of job do you have!!!!... Investment banker, airline pilot (or are you the caretaker?)
Take it from me ............ I hold many degrees in all forms of medicine. I'm also pathological liar but don't let that distract you from taking my best advise. Hit the turps, big time. If it doesn't cure it, at least you had a great time doing it ................ and please, as a fellow RRRRRRR'rrrs supporter, no charge for you for such prudent advice.
I work in IT at a oil company and I'm definitely not the caretaker whats the difference between viral and bacterial? I've already started a course of emoxcillin
Get well soon, Secret. Don't believe the others when they tell you that gargling on spooge alleviates the symptoms.
Bacterial is caused by bacteria and killed by antibiotics...which is what you have if the doctor has given you emoxicillin. Viral is causec by virus....and is not killed by antibiotics. (Giving antibiotics for viral throat infections is one of the ways that antibiotic resistance gets started
