Good god it changes like the wind ... green did his job .. we are blessed with two good keepers .... end of
We are blessed with two keepers. If we had two tip strikers we'd be safe already. SomeOnes got to help Remy
I have to admit to concern when Cesar limped off as I haven't completely gotten over Green's performance a couple of World Cups ago but he was certainly up to the task today. May this form long contionue
and so the Rob Green bashing continues even after he has put in a match winning performance. I find the Julio Caesar worship from this board as opposed to the Rob Green hating absolutely baffling. Caesar gets away with some shocking errors from this board. Its like you watch with Brazillian yellow tinted glasses. Here are three facts for you lot 1) Caesar made an error that could have cost us two points yesterday and it was the kind of error that we have seen a lot of from him. The opposition know this and are all now "following in". Had Green done that yesterday you lot would be erecting gallows! 2) Caesar was simply awful against Swansea. Barely raised an eyebrow on here. Had that been Green it would have been gallows time again. 3) We have two very good goalkeepers. Neither of them are perfect and we would swap them both for Hart and Reina. Whichever one of them is between the sticks they need and deserve our support!
Cesar had a bit of a mare, he made another error after his injury but got away with it and was then subbed. We can afford to rest him to ensure he's fully fit, but it might just be our two excellent keepers prove to be what keep us up in the end...
Just saw the match and have to say, that Cesar is a great goalkeeper and has given rangers a chance to fight for their survival. However IMO Southamptons goal yesterday was his fault as was Swanseas first goal three weeeks ago. Both goals were very similar, just take a low shot against Cesar and he parries the ball three - four meters in front of him where the striker had the easy job and score. That is obviously a weak point of otherwise great goalkeeper.
It's pretty obvious that Cesar is the better keeper out of the him and Green, that surely can't be argued or doubted by anyone.....BUT I thought the whole point of us having two world class keepers was that it gave us options if needed. Given the choice of an injured Cesar and a 100% fit Green then i would play the latter every time.
Exactly, not quite sure why some folks here have a bit of a hard on for Green. Sure he's prone to a few clangers, but he is none the less a class keeper and we are lucky to have him as an option in our goalkeeper stable. Perhaps when Kenny was carrying that injury last season, Radek Cerny should have been given the nod a little sooner, because he performed admirably when he did step in.
I don't think we can call Cesar World class either. He's a very good keeper no doubt but World class keepers aren't at fault for 3 or 4 goals in three games - injured or not. We're a small Club and the chances of us ever having a true "World class" player are almost none. Still, I think what Stainsey was trying to say was that having two good players for every position, particularly in goal, pays off when you need to utilise your squad. Its called strength in depth. I agree Staines.
I dunno Swords, to be honest, playing in goal umpteen times for one of the greatest footballing nations ever and recently being made Captain of Brazil for half a match probably (in my eyes anyway) make Cesar 'World Class'
You could counter that by saying he plays for QPR Stainsey!! You could counter it further by saying he's been directly at fault for 3 or 4 goals in the last 3 games. Look, I'm not bashing the bloke. He's done great for us since he came in but I do think that our fan base has a tendency to get carried away when they "fall in love" with a player belonging to us. Tarbs would be an example and Cesar would be another. He's a brilliant shot-stopper but his proneness to dropping howlers perhaps shows why he's with us rather than still at Inter Milan or another huge Club. Don't get me wrong. I'm very glad that we've got him but we must have a bit of perspective.
I don't totally disagree with you mate, and I do know you are not knocking him. BUT he IS 'World Class'
On reflection, maybe his is World class mate. Being Brazil Captain cannot be discounted. I do believe that the overall standard of modern goalkeeping is nowhere near as good as it used to be so on that score, Cesar probably is World Class in a modern sense. Although on the other hand, do World Class keepers regularly drop clangers? Its a debate that will rage on and on. Glad he's here with us though.
I think all of them do at some time mate. Problem for a keeper is that most, if not all, their clangers result in goals and make the keeper look pretty inept. For an outfield player, if they screw up it seems to not be so remembered.
That's very true mate but don't the real top class keepers very rarely make howlers? When I look back through the years I remember keepers that were very consistent. Its just not the case nowadays. Maybe its something to do with the modern football and how it dips and dives all over the shop compared to the balls of a decade or two ago? The modern keeper is also very poor at fielding a cross. They come and punch and half the time only poke it toward an opposition player. Maybe I have the rose tints on but I feel like the art that is goalkeeping has nosedived in recent years.
Green brave and stood up well yesterday. He got an ovation from the away fans. We might have lost this vs just drop 2 points if he had not been on form. At the end they were running through us.
