Might have him as a third-choice signing. If Gervinho, Gameiro, Diabate, Sigthorsson bids fail or we want another striker.

    This^^^^

How are people saying Defoe is out of his peak...players peaks are from around 26-31

Defoe is a quality player, probably atleast Europa league standard with 30 plus games in a season hes pretty much guaranteed 15 goals atleast....... We may have 30 million but were not going to get kaka or even Gervinho, all the top players go to teams who play in europe... where we strive to be!!

He is a natural goal scorer and he doesnt get in the team because of the system Harry plays... he needs to acomodate Bale, Modric, Van der Vaart.....

Defoe would really increase the teams spirit and confidence knowing that you put the balls in the right area he will score.

He would be a better signing then Drogba due to his age, and probably cheaper

People saying give him games and he'l score, please look at Beatski's post.

I'd rather go for someone up and coming. I think Defoe's on the way down which is exactly why he's fallen out of favour at spurs.

    finally, some sense

by the things i read on this board, there will be a lot of disappointed fans come august when the realisation sets in that we cant attract or afford the top players (with a few exceptions, namely HBA)

as long as we steer clear of carlton cole ill be happy, and if we were to get defoe, id be delighted, as it would be a big step forward, never mind his poor season, look at his record over a career, much better than what we currently have

Just because a player has one bad season does that mean his career's over? Many players have bad seasons in their career look at Dj Campbell... Look at Torres...but doesnt mean they should just retire as they are now awful... that would be fickle...To me stats are always half the story and they are irrelevant unless you know the background of why the stats are the way they are

I agree southerngeordi, some fans have gone abit crazy with speculation and should realise we are a knewly promoted team not in London or Manchester, and not in europe, with probably a quit

This, next season I believe we should be targeting a top ten finish, which we would be in a good position to do were we to sign him.

A forward line of this wouldn't be the tallest I know but it might work...

    NEW WINGER--Barton--Tiote-Gutierrez
    Ben Arfa
    Defoe

Im not saying he should retire, just saying I'd rather we got someone with their best years ahead of them (like Carrol was) rather than looking like they're on the decline from what they used to be.

He'd probably be ok for a couple of seasons for us but I can't see us getting a good deal for the bloke.

Personally, the more I have thought about it..

..I would love to get Defore here to NUFC.

To put it simply, he is a threat to opposition defences. He's quick, has a goal poacher instinct but can hit them with power from distance given the space. He's only 28 and if he finds some form and starts knocking goals in again will be a valuable player for us.

I canT imagine them asking for more than £8m, Id be over the moon if he was cheaper.

Negatives? His ankle has given him trouble the last few years. Im sure he still played 30+ games this season. Plus he wont have the extra burdon of midweek european games.

Id love him to play for NUFC.

Not an issue for me - back in the day with beardsley and Cole up front, neither were a threat in the air but 93-94 they scored 66 goals between them - How'd they do that?

By having a good passing and moving midfield in Lee, Clarkie and Sellers. We have the nucleus of a similar team again in Barton, Gutierez and Ben Arfa. A nippy forward (Defoe) and a new right winger and we'll be well on our way.

Plus Tiote is better than Bracewell!

I agree, you can look at the stats all you like, but Defoe has scored at every club he's been at IF HE'S BEEN GIVEN A PROPER RUN!! He's very much a confidence player and when he's on he can be dynamite! IMO he was by far Englands most dangerous striker at the WC last year.

If we could get him for between 6-8m then I think that we could get around 3 good seasons out of him!!
