I was thinking yesterday about how rare and special it is for Norwich fans to see their team play a team as great as Manchester United So, what are the most special games, not necessarily in terms of result, and worst games you've attended? So it doesn't count of you weren't in the crowd. Make it a top 5 and bottom 5 if you can. Special games 1 - Norwich v Crystal Palace - 2004/2005 season - my first PL/top flight game. Very special to see my team in the top league for the first time. 2 - Norwich v Manchester United - 2004/2005 - great to see Norwich beat a top club, and the atmosphere towards the end of the game was unbelievable. I wasn't sure which one to choose with the other Manchester United game this season and last season. Even when we lost last season we were so close to getting a point and United were so relieved to get the last minute goal. 3 - Norwich v Birmingham - play-off final - the only Norwich final I've been to and the closest to a Wembley final I've been to. I guess this is my version of couldn't watch my team in Europe because of a technicality. 4 - Norwich v Ipswich - 2010/2011 - Best East Anglian derby I've been to. 5 - Norwich v Derby - 2010/2011 - THAT goal, the atmosphere and almost confirming our promotion back to the PL, the noise and the celebrations after THAT goal went in was incredible. I will never forget hearing the Radio Norfolk commentary after getting back in the car and Robbie Savage taking his time getting off the pitch which allowed the extra time for THAT goal. Worst games This is going to depress me! The less said about these the better. 1 - Norwich v Colchester - 2009/2010 2 - Norwich v Bristol City - Worthington's last game, the worst I've ever seen Norwich play, including the Colchester game. The players weren't interested and didn't even try. 3 - Coventry City v Norwich - one of the only away games I've been to. The game that was start of the end of Worthington's time at Norwich. 4 - most games towards the end of he who shall not be named time at Norwich. The only manager I've actually joined the group of people wanting them to be sacked.
Good idea for a thread: Most special game - Playoff Final. What an amazing day out it was! Worst ever game - Norwich v Colchester. For obvious reasons.
Come on! You've got to put more effort in than that! I still remember T the Play-off final, after Birmingham won on penalties, not really being too bothered about the result while two kids roughly the same age as I was were in tears. But we stayed to watch the Birmingham fans flood the pitch and applaud Birmingham as they lifted the trophy.
Best games. Colchester V Norwich in league one with 2 superb golas from C Martin. Charlton V Norwich - my son and I were in the stand just behind where the Admiral scored, which took us back to the Championship. Norwich V Ipswich 28 Nov 10 and the GH hat trick. I was just behind the goal when Moro scored the winner from a Holty cross against WBA last season, but I guess when we beat ManUre this season has to be one of the very best results, if not the greatest game!!!!
Struggle at my age to remember details of whole matches but some special moments at Carrow Road for me 1)2008 ncfc 2 Ipsquit 0 Croft scored a stunner and I was right in line with him and was out of my seat well before the ball hit the back of the net then Leroy Lita ran 50 yards to get the ref to remove a scum player with a bit of blood on his shirt allowing Pattison to score with no marker one if the most creative assists ever 2) same season 5-2 win over Wolves on a Tuesday night Leroy Lita hat trick 3) Holts personal demolition of Ipswich in the 4-1 win Bad experiences This years game against Newcastle was just totally dire and void of any entertainment Sitting in the Barclay with rain dripping on my head from the top of the stand while Ian Wright thumped a hat trick past us back in the 90s
Special Norwich V QPR - I think it was 1994 we were two nil down and by some miracle managed to bang four past them in the 2nd half in the space of about ten minutes. Norwich V Coventry Dec 2010- The weather was absolutely terrible a really miserable snow infested day one of the times you hit the road and think if this get's any worse I'm going back home luckily we kept driving. The game itself wasn't a spectacle we won 2-1 but for once I actually felt a buzz that we were just a bit more then a Championship team, to add to it there was a great atmosphere. Norwich V Scunthorpe Apr 2011 - Another one of those game's where you feel an almighty buzz about the team we won 6-0 with Holt and Jacko both grabbing three a piece, it was almost like an exhibition game I remember we also had Pacheco on loan at the time and played some brilliant football it was also one of the best games I've ever seen David Fox play in a Norwich shirt as he absolutely ran the show. Worse Norwich V Colchester I'll admit I went in this game being very over confident and cocky but soon piped down, the car journey back home has never been so silent. Norwich V Coventry August 2008 - The Sky Blues won 2-0, I was absolutely livid scoreline aside this is one of the most diabolical games I've ever seen us play Mark Fotheringham was an utter disgrace. I remember it was the only time I've left early for half time really! Got a drink in the Barclay with my cousin and we looked at pictures on the walls of the clubs greatest moments, talking about the good old days it was very grim you just knew we were relegated.
Top games Chelsea Away 2011-12 - It was the first game I had seen last season, the atmosphere was brilliant, generally had a really good day meeting family in London and also got on Match of the Day. I think it was more the day as a whole why it was one of the better games. Everton Home 2012 -13 - It was only last week but by far it's the best team I have seen us beat. Living in Northampton we only get to about 5 games no we are in the Prem. I think the eruption at the end when Holt scored was brilliant, I am probably still slightly on a buzz from that game ahah. Coventry away and Scunthorpe at home were also two great games. Worst game Obviously Colchester, went with Northants and was also very cocky going into that game. Highlight of the day was seeing the season tickets ripped and thrown in Gunn's face. Leicester Away 2008 4-0 we lost, just was a ****e game, DJ Campbell scored which is as irritating as anything.
That was a dreadful game to make it even worse I had to go to someone's birthday party that night and three people in attendance were Leicester fans. That was a very temperamental game a big group of City fans got arrested on the day after a fight in city centre, I remember coins being exchanged between the two sets of fans and seeing people getting hit. It wasn't a very enjoyable game there was a bad atmosphere the police were very aggressive. I remember Shane visiting four food vans in space of an hour then attempting to take the piss out of me using a cigarette vending machine at a bar.
For me:- Special- 1. Bayern Munich away - What a result and probably Norwich's finest ever. So lucky to have been there. 2. Bayern Munich at home - Rivals the first game purely because we avoided defeat and knocked one of europes greats out of the competition 3. Southampton at home (FA Cup Quarter final Replay in 1991) - A real battle. Saints had 2 sent off by the end of 90 mins. The game went into extra time. With Fleck having gone off with broken ribs a young Chris Sutton scored the winner against 9 men who had parked the bus and were praying for pens. 4. Derby at home - Jackson's winner, need I say more. 5. Liverpool away - last game of the Anfield Kop. What an atmosphere! Worst- 1. Agree with OP's Bristol City game (although wasn't it Burnley at home that was Worthy's last?) 2. I have to go with the aforementioned Burnley game. An awful performance and heavy defeat. Just remeber leaving after the game and the heavens opening, lightening and thunder. got back to the car to hear that Worthy had gone. 3. Ipswich away (the 5-0er). - I dont know if I can count this as I was actually sitting in the Barclay end watching the live feed on a massive screen put onto the pitch. 4. Everton away in the 2005 season. - 6hrs on a coach to get there, crap chang beer, I missed the only goal as had gone for a wee (not enough toilets to go at half time), we lost 1-0 and got fronted up by a pissed up Evertonion who for some reason wanted to find a Norwich fan to punch even though his side had won. Fortunately I was right by my coach and so avoided getting anything but abused. I struggle to remember any other individual matches that were that bad, guess I have removed them from memory. Most of the Roeder era was pretty bad.
Best ever Norwich v Crystal Palace at the end of the 71/2 season.Norwich had to win to stay up,went one down and then came back to 2-1.
This is exactly what I did. For some reason my parents had parked in the Morisons car park, which was gridlocked so we didn't get moving for 2 hours. We just sat there listening to Canary Call and hearing Worthy had gone.
Best: League Cup semi-final wins at CR vs Chelsea 1-0 and vs The Binners 2-0 - the place went wild both times. Worst - there's been a few, especially during the Rodent era, but the one that sticks out most was our 3-2 defeat by Leicester in 1981 which sent us down to the then second division. We'd gone 2-0 down, fought back to 2-2 and then Jim Melrose scored his third goal of the game which sent us down. I was in the Barclay then and we were receiving news (erroneous as it turned out) that Sunderland were losing 1-0 at Anfield which mean that a draw was good enough to keep us up and put Sunderland down and then when Melrose scored his third it all went bollocks up. As it happened we found out after the game that Sunderland had actually won 1-0 so we were doomed anyway. Still hurt like hell though when we went down
