Thought he was back home in Argentina because he was working from now still the start of the new season on his dodgey knee with the Argie physio

more like finding himself a new club

the lad surely must have something about him to be in the national teams squad

From what we've read, he's gone back to work on the ligament damage with the Argie national team's physio with Sunderland's blessing - and they expect him to come back and play a part next season. The fuss of a couple of months ago seems to have been forgotten and this arrangement sounded amicable.

You're right - that's one squad you don't get into by being a bad player. I hope he comes back fixed up and brings a bit of their swashbuckling flair with him.

I don't think that first bit will be the case though I think it is more likely Angeleri has questioned Brucie's methods, from Angeleri's point of view you have been capped by one of the most football renowned countries in the world been linked with Mourinho at Inter Milan a year before and now you cannot even get into a match day squad for Sunderland (how many people in Argentina will of heard of Sunderland? Very few I would imagine) aswell as up rooting and jetting halfway around the world you aint going to be very happy are you?

I bet he never returns to Sunderland again

Of the 3 Amigo's, he was the one I was most excited about.
Hope it all works out for him and us.

Its not the South American players ability i worry about its their attitude to English football some of them are just not up for the fight of the English game.
Although being an Argie you would think so
Good luck to the bloke although the Notts County game did not show much

Who knows? Bur according to Bruce's press statement, he aggravated the cruciate knee ligament he'd injured at Estudiantes in our pre-season friendlies in Portugal. He's been allowed to go to the Argie national specialist because that's who treated him last time. That's all I know.

The one thing we can be sure of is that he first sustained the injury at Estudiantes. When Maradona took over the national squad, he gave Angeleri his first cap. It looked as though he was heading for South Africa. He didn't go because he sustained this injury and Maradona stuck with the people who ultimately helped him qualify. So, whilst everyone knows I want Bruce out of this club by next Monday morning, we can be certain this injury ISN'T down to Bruce. It might be that Bruce's training methods haven't helped his recovery, but he's not responsible for the original injury.

Bigger Chris ("the man is extremely poor") - sorry, mate, I can't discuss it because I haven't seen enough of him. But if you'd care to give Diego or Jose a ring, I'm sure they'll be sufficiently informed to 'advise' you - in quite specific ways.

Not the first Argentinian international not to make it at Sunderland. Medina was good enough to win an Olypic gold medal with Argentina but hardly got a shout at Sunderland. Too light weight I think was said but most Argentine internationals can lok after themselves. Who was the guy we signed years ago, name a bit like Maradonna (Marign***) can't quite remember?

he never went over to argentina tor treatment, it was to keep it on quiet that he had been told to find another club for no fee. if he can agree terms, he can leave without a fee, just to get off our books

Angeleri is no Julio Arca thats for certain. Jules is one of the best players we have had a the club from overseas for a generation and I would take another 4 or 5 like him for attitude and ability.

Personally, I dont care if he (the pony tailed one that is) does make it somewhere else, the plain fact is he was a complete waste of a wage and shirt for the whole of last season. I'd rather Bruce concentrate on getting a right back or left back, that can add to the team and squad in a possitive way.

    No more gambles Bruce.

Ha! Small world - Bob Stokoe once tried to sign Alex Sabella from Sheffield United (does anyone remember that saga?). Today, Sabella is manager of ..... Estudiantes!

Pont, I think you are referring to Claudio Marangoni who played for us back in the late 70's but failed to live up to expectations and returned to Argentina after only a season. Amazingly his career prospered after he left, both at the national and domestic level in South America.

Indeed he was. Saw him score an absolutely brilliant goal at Fulham. He hit it so hard it's still travelling.

Seems like he may be in demand..

MARCOS Angeleri could be heading home to former club Estudiantes as Sunderland look to cut their losses on the Argentine defender.

Angeleri has only made two brief substitute appearances in the Premier League since arriving in a £1.5million deal from Estudiantes last summer.

The 28-year-old has failed to convince boss Steve Bruce that he can adapt to English football, with his chances not helped by aggravating an existing knee ligament problem during Sunderland’s pre-season friendly with Benfica.

Despite Sunderland’s decimated squad set to become even more depleted during the summer when their loan players return to their parent clubs, Bruce is willing to let Angeleri leave.

Estudiantes are keen to re-sign the right-back while there will be no shortage of interest elsewhere in South America, where Angeleri is still held in high regard.

Bruce said: “If Marcos can’t find another club then he’ll certainly have another chance here next season, but it might be better for him if he can get fixed up somewhere else.

“There is talk that Estudiantes want him in Argentina.

“I think he re-injured his knee against Benfica and he never really recovered from that. He’s been half-fit all season which is a horrible position to be in as a player.

“But then he still played for Argentina six weeks ago which shows that he’s still highly-rated.”

Angeleri’s chances of forcing his way into Bruce’s reckoning weren’t helped when he criticised the Sunderland boss after winning his fourth cap for his country against the USA in late March.

The defender was fined by Sunderland after suggesting he had been frozen out by Bruce because he wasn’t English.

But there has been little evidence during his brief appearances that Angeleri will be a success story on Wearside and he returned to Argentina earlier this month for further treatment on his knee.

He will have a chance to impress potential suitors though next month after again being included in the national squad for a friendly against Nigeria.

Angeleri has found support in one quarter at least with Newcastle’s Argentine winger Jonas Gutierrez admitting he has been surprised as his fellow countryman’s lack of first-team football.

Gutierrez said: “I cannot understand why he has not played for Sunderland. He is strong, quick, a very good player. It is strange.

“The manager (Bruce) took him in. It has been hard for Marcos. But it is always hard for South Americans to come to England and play well in their first season.

“It is a completely different lifestyle, a different culture and a completely different way of playing football.

“But it is the manager who makes the decisions to bring players over here. Marcos is a great player and I believe he has a good future.”
