It has been a great season and should be a great summer.

Gill expects busy summer

Chief executive David Gill says United fans can expect the Reds to be busy in this summer's transfer market.

Gill told MUTV: "We've been working very hard over the course of the last 12 months to understand which positions we need to fill and identifying the players [we want] and trying to work on it.

"Gary [Neville] has retired already and Edwin [van der Sar] is retiring. We've been doing a lot of work on a replacement for Edwin to determine who we want to replace him. I think we're well on the way with that. There are other areas as well as with Paul [Scholes] still to decide what he wants to do.

"So I think it'll be slightly busier than normal but that's good. What Alex has done so successfully over the last 25 years is to reinvent the team slowly by bringing in new players and integrating them with established stars. That's what we'll continue to do.

"We get a buzz from bringing in new players and we're looking forward to a busy summer with relish."

Who will they be!!!

Hope we get a decent goalkeeper after the great van der sar retires after this season.

We have 116m cash in the bank which will rise to 150m after this season. Ferguson has confirmed we will buy 2 or 3 players and Gill has confirmed this to. We have cash and it will be spent. The club is run well and people need to be patient and stop looking over at what City are doing. We need to keep to our philosophy of buying young and experienced players and mixing them together. We don't need to do a City, we can compete against them in other ways. Lets just follow our structure which satisfy s Ferguson. Our revenues are increasing and so are our operating profits have increased. We have interest rates of around 45m but we make a profit if we exclude one off costs. Ferguson wants to sign 2 or 3 players and so does Gill. I am sure we will but we must remember we have a great youth team and they deserve a chance.

Seems that Fergie just hasn't felt the need to spend as yet and by winning the league and getting to the CL league final has been proved right , to a degree .
He also appears to be a cautious man and likes to "track" players for sometime to make sure he gets the right man .
Times he's had his hand forced because one or another of our rivals has taken interest in said player they've not always worked out so well .

I fully doubt that we will sign a top player this summer though. Top goal keeper maybe but thinking about it, how will we compete with City to buy the sneidjers of this world. Maybe our prestige and paying over the odds. But I won't hold my breath but I am sure we will compete. I am more excited about Anderson developing, Cleverly, Morrison, Pogba. These players are the future of Utd. Ferguson will make the best choice and we will compete next season. However, people will write us off again. People don't get tired of being wrong.
