Isn't it wonderful to have options - considering that just a short time ago, it was all about Lee Croft and 'that' goal. Onwards and upwards, chaps - and chapesses
For me its got to be Bassong. Has been an absolute rock, and we look so much more vulnerable when he's not there. Snoddie not too far behind. Plays with passion and his quality is shining through. Most improved has got to be Turner, who after a shocking start has shown immense character to turn things around. Also like to give an honourable mention to Bunn, who looks better and better each game. Has produced some outstanding saves in recent games, and I think will make Ruddy have to fight to get his jersey back! Bradley Johnson has been Mr Consistency this season, and I'd also like to mention Garrido, Tettey & Hoolahan who have contributed well, although all 3 have gone a bit off the boil in recent games (I'm sorry if this is beginning to sound like an Oscar acceptance speech!). Holt has worked tirelessly in a very difficult role, and Kamara looks capable of making a blindside run for the winning post if he can perform consistently like he did on the week-end!
I look at it from the point of view of which player do we miss the most when absent... For me it's Bassong.
It's interesting how differently people see things, I'd love to replace johnson with someone who can get the ball on target and pass.
I think we'd all agree that Defensive Midfield needs some work in the summer. We currently have just Fox used to playing a similar role in the 4-2-3-1, and he's out of favour at the moment because breaking up play isn't his strong point. If we had someone who could tackle, pass and shoot then we'd be vastly improved in that area. Ideally I'd like the likes of Biglia to come in, but getting Bridcutt for competition would at least be a start.
Problem is those types of players are hard to come by, cost huge sums and even bigger wages and currently play for sides in the top four ! Johnson has done a terrific job this season, remember he cost us nothing!, yes his passing could be better but if he had a ball playing center mid along side him i'm sure he'd improve.
I voted for Bassong as he has been solid in defence and we seem to struggle without him, Snodgrass has also been consistent this season but don't forget John Ruddy would probably have been in your list if he hadn't picked up an injury before christmas.
I can understand the logic of which player is most missed when he isn't there being Bassong, but you could also make the point that Snodgrass has hardly missed a match as far as I can recall. I'd be happy with either though.
Bassong or snodders here as well - probably bassong because I can't imagine us being anywhere near where we are had he not been about - pilks would have been up there but has dropped off a bit recently - definitely having a cheeky pound or three on kamara to get himself on the score sheet for man u and southampton...
