By Andrew Benson 2010 Korean GP - "There were so many things in one race that it remains quite shocking what we did in Korea." 2006 Spanish GP - "Maybe for me still the most emotional race." 2000 Belgian GP - "I also like, and have seen many times on TV, the race at Spa with Mika and Michael, when they overtook Ricardo Zonta at the end of the straight. That was a super race - from both of them." "One of my favourite races was Senna-Prost fight in Suzuka when in Turn One they finished both in the gravel, and the year before, when one of them finished stopped in the chicane." 1990 Japanese GP 1989 Japanese GP
As with some of the other drivers, its nice to see he's mixed a few classics in with races with personal moments. If I had to choose my top 5, the 2000 Belgian GP would definitely be up there just for that superb Hakkinen overtake.
Another good mix of races, its good to see this idea working after Vettel seemed to miss understand it at the start.
How did he miss Spa 2005? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yLZLxT1ZEPA Today's Schumacher may not have yielded...
I'm surprised he didn't say Monza 2010 ... must be the best feeling ever for a Ferrari driver to be on the top step of the podium @ Monza I'll vote for Korea 2010 - a new track, wet conditions, little grip, poor light conditions, Red Bull out, epic tyre management. That was the race that gave Alonso his biggest chance to win the title - and what a win!
You mean, 1) Me 2) Me 3) Me again 4) Oh, me 5) Ayrton Senna, Donington Park, 1993... no, I'm just pulling your leg - it's me again.
Could we extend this idea, and have people give their own top 5 races? (Or have we already tried that before?)
You mean people here - not606 members? You could give it a go but I used to find threads like that on 606 inordinately tiresome because most posters would just name the races without giving descriptions or explanations. It was about as interesting as favourite colour or part of a woman's body.
I'll give it a go DHC In random order btw. 1/ Brazil '05. Not a great race in terms of excitement but a brilliant result for me. Seeing my driver win the championship for the first time. 2/ Hungary '06. Best Hungarian GP imo ever. Lots of overtaking and a very mixed result. Unlucky for Alonso but still would love to have seen it live. 3/ Suzuka '05. Wet quali gave a mixed result but a slow Fisichella on pole and close to win. Raikkonen and Alonso's comeback was great, especially Raikkonen as he just lost champ the race before. Both made excellent overtaking and deserved their positions. 4/ Brazil '08. Most tense finish ever to a championship. Massa was champion until Mr Glock came along. First half wasnt great but with the rain it was a good finish. 5/ Korea '10. Boring start but when it (finally) got underway it was a really good race but unfortunate for Rosberg, Webber denied his first victory. This is a rough top 5. Probably forgot a few too
If you're going to go for it then a mod should either rename this thread (e.g. 'Alonso's top five races - what are yours?') and delete the poll, or split the thread at DHCanary's suggestion (4:02pm) and start a new thread.
Now let me guess? The people who voted for Korea '10 are the ones who were happy a certain rivals engine blew
Didn't have to hear it lol, my brother next to me didn't stop screaming when it did happen. If that was any other season that would of been game over.
If Vettel's engine didn't blow, do you think he would have won the race? I don't think he could have held on to 1st. After the race, Alonso said that after Webber's accident, they changed their strategy because they were happy enough with 2nd. Despite that, Vettel's lead was shortened from about 3 seconds - 1.2 in the laps before he retired. Don't know how Vettel's situation was with the tyres, but everyone apart from Alonso struggled in the last few laps - both with visibility and grip. The fact that Vettel was complaining about light suggests he was struggling. Bear in mind that the Ferrari was gentle on it's tyres, and I don't think Vettel could have matched Alonso in the last few laps. I don't know how the drivers managed to finish in those last few laps, it was really dark: please log in to view this image
It would of been very interesting if Vettel's engine had not blown because in the final few laps when it was getting very dark and the tyres were going Alonso was supreme, over a second faster per lap than the rest, so I think he could of won anyway.
I think Alonso should at least have picked :- Brazil 2003 Canada 2007 USA 2007 Singapore 2008 Germany 2010
Nah I'm pretty sure vettel was not in the sense having "Alonso in his pocket". But every time the safety car came in he would pull away. The final result was pretty much the same situation as Bahrain. In a sense my brother stole the thunder up until the last race. Any vettel fan who said they still believed he was still going to get the WDC after Korea was talking BS, double wc, leading the WDC. Was so sure it was over...
