Asked if Rodgers and he had talked about his axing from the side, he said: "Yes, we have but it is not ideal. He told me something on this, gave me some explanation, but it's hard to tell if it was the true reason he gave me.

"I don't think it was and think there is something else behind it.

What do you think the "something else behind it" could be?

Yeah I thought that could be it

Regardless of this, we are obviously going to see a new centre half next season

Could be that his lapses of concentration this season has cost us bigtime and hes still living off winning club player of the year after one outstanding season.

If he want's away let him go.<ok>

If he'd been as bad as this before then maybe that was a fluke season and you'd be making sense. But he wasn't, it wasn't and you aren't. You're making excuses for Rodgers being useless at defending and ruining one of the best CH pairings in the PL.

I agree, he's a good player but not brilliant and we would get a good transfer fee for him. Who do we buy is the big question?

Kelly long term but we would need someone ready to play.

Thats actually quite funny. First 6 months of last season they played pretty well. Other than that its been one of the least successful partnerships we've had. He's been dropped because he was playing crap and has been pretty much since he signed (those 6 months apart)

Gtf Mupp, his only true attribute is his fearlessness in tackling and heading, he lacks positional nous and concentration, i couldn't give a **** what BR thinks mate, my views are my own.

He had a very good season last season, his best for us without doubt, prior to that he was a decent player without being exceptional, sometimes he got the nod in front of Carra or Agger but I always thought both were better than him. Some people are saying we could get close to £10m for him, if thats true, Id defo take it, in fact Id take £7m or above.Hes on about £70k a week now,and may be prepared to leave for less if it meant regular footy, plus rumours Anzhi may have interested in him.Think hes 27/28 now , IMO its the right time to sell, while he still has some value

Whatever my views, and I actually do rate him, he shouldn't be yapping like that. He's not doing himself any favours at all. It may actually mean that he's not deemed suitable and isn't in the plans, and has been told as much.

Losing Carra (OK shadow of what he was). AND Skrtel in one summer is a bit sad. Especially since Coates looks gone too... Wilson has been a no show...

Its one thing not having a striker... are we going to have no CBs left. (Dagger has had his share of rumours too).

All new CB line up? Great another "transition season" coming up.

Admittedly that's taking the pessemist view... but I'd rather we keep Skrtel at least until January... let the new defenders ease in... and make sure they're good enough before we ship off at least two of our three senior CBs.

  13. I know I have the odd pop at you on here MFG (like a lot of posters) but that comment is obsolute bollox!

Skrtel is a awful defender! Last season, he was good and he had started to change my opinion of him but unfortunately that season seems to have been the odd one out. I wouldn't give a **** if he was to leave, I wanted us to sell him in the summer when Man City where rumoured to be willing to pay £20m+. He is a liability, especially defending set pieces!

Edit: and yes, I do think MFG is a bit of a WUM which I've bitten on but most on here know what I think of Skrtel <grr>

I think that I have to side with Skrtel on this one. He was fantastic last year, under Steve Clarke. He's always been solid (WHEN PLAYING WITH AGGER). Yes he's been the weaker of the two, but his mistakes are only highlighted because of the fantastic defense we have. He's miles ahead of Arsenals pairing, Evertons pairing, etc.

Anyone we bring in isn't going to be much better unless they are the next Hyypia.

His grievances are correct. Why was he dropped? He made a few mistakes. Fantastic way to instill confidence in a player, especially Player of the Season. He's been replaced by Carra, who hasn't been much better. Yes Carra's been alright but he already cost us an exit from the EL (not only him). Is the real reason for his being dropped to gain cheap points from the fans and Carra before his retirement? I feel that it is.

I fear this is another one of Rodgers' player experiments, like Henderson at RB, dropping Hendo for Shelvey, dropping Enrique, playing Downing at RB, Downing at all, etc. He needs to understand that Agger - Skrtel is our best defensive pairing and if they're underperforming, other avenues can be explored - not just dropping him for a month. Maybe your short pass game doesn't work in defense? Maybe you're not focusing on defense enough? Maybe playing Allen and Shelvey doesn't give them enough cover to keep up form for 2 years? I don't think these have been tweaked given that Skrtel is a top professional - he's not a slouch or a youngster. He should be playing again.

I realise players can be blamed for many problems in the squad, but I don't think we can blame Skrtel for this much. He hasn't been that bad (good even) for years yet Rodgers has treated him like ****. We all have this season.

Though I must say he shouldn't be taking these concerns public. He needs to respect that too. I'm behind Rodgers and I think he needs time, but he's so stubborn. Its Rafa mk II and its not going to end well for our loyal players unless Rodgers stops with the experiments.

I can't decide because I don't know the behind the scenes.

Chicken or Egg? Does Skrts have an attitude because he's been dropped or has he been dropped because of an attitude he's shown to criticism he's been given?

The fact that he's whining in public has my gut say the latter but as I say I wasn't party to those conversations.

Ask practically any Liverpool supporter and you'll find that we were all surprised by his form last season. Season before that he was a liability due to concentration lapses, being overly aggressive on corners, and having games where he just doesn't turn up. He's improved since, clearly, but this season he's back to his old tricks.

Muppet Finder in anti-Brendan comment shock!!

Skirts played well for us for one season and also came good in a previous. However he isn't that great a loss providing we can afford to bring in someone better.

He is definately a confidence player. If he gets going then he is pretty good. I feel a little sorry for him because he has taken the club to heart.

I'd keep him another season (but still buy another CB).

  20. I can't help but think Skrtel is a player that is rated on this board because he plays with a Liverbird on his left tit. If he played for someone else, would he still be rated? IMO, no chance!
