His lack of experience showed at times, but for the most part I thought this lad was class last night.

Showed real potential. He's very strong, quick, canny in the air.

Early days, but he showed some good qualities and very determined. The odd suspect moment, but he is young. I think he Will give Santon something to think about.

I think he'll give the opposition something to think about.

    Good to have him aboard.

Looks very well built and mobile with it, looks comfortable on the ball too.

Actually, that description could apply to all of our recent signings.

The lad looked good and augurs well for the future. All 5 of our new signings look class acts and if we get a striker as good then next season should be exciting.

Thought he looked composed and confident, although he could have done with a bit more support at times.
Having seen all our new boys play now, l am even more delighted with our business in the last window than l previously thought. All five signings looking really bright, and not forgetting Mbabu who is a bright young prospect for the future as well.

Thought all the guys looked good and played a great game. As Gordonthetoony says, a good new striker wouldn't come amiss.

Total agreement here. Haidara was the main one who I thought was a class act the other night - and the whole team played well IMO. On his debut Haidara really stood up to the mark as if he's been in the team for ages.

If Pardew wants to take a chance on him, I'd give him a place in the team tomorrow. Santon needs a genuine challenger at left back.

In fact I'd start with the same team from Thursday - they'll be up for it and could pull off another win.

Agree, although I think Debuchy + Le Gouf in for Simmo + Shola would add a bit of cutting edge. I would give Haidara a start over Santon right now though. <ok>

Ok I'm getting carried away maybe - I was well sorted at the pub by the end of the night. Simmo did ok too mind, I thought he put in a canny shift - and obviously Mackem-Slayer once again showed his bottle on an important occasion.

Yeah, it was a great night. I don't mean to discredit any of the players for what what a great team effort, as they all played their part. I just think against the Saints we'll need the work rate of Le Gouf rather than Shola's clumsy physical presence up front and Debuchy offers more going forward than Simmo, who was again fairly solid, but didn't make the most of some opportunities to turn defence into attack.

Impressive debut. Showed some nice touches and a fair bit of power. Odd error but it was the lads debut, and a tough place to make it. Santon will hopefully up his game now and rediscover his early season form and positional sense.

Why, what's wrong with Santon's positional sense Pouchy?

Santon is a very talented footballer,IMO he is not a left-back nor does he have the awareness of one.Several times (including Lambert's goal) an obvious void, where he should have been, was exploited by S'hampton. I believe he was a wing-back in a previous life and that is the position he looks good in.However we may not always be as lucky against teams who will use the final ball in a more measured way.
Once we are safe in a game (if that ever happens) Haidra should be brought on to help his development, as hopefully he makes the position his.
That apart the result, together with the other in the Premiership, make it a pretty good weekend.Spurs to thrash W.Ham and we move up one more place.

Yeah, good overall set of results for us this weekend. Pulled away from QPR, Reading, Vile, Saints, plus leapfrogged(get it?) the Mackems and closed the gap on Hammers (for now at least), and Stoke.

will seem odd rooting for the Spuds, but for once I think it may be required. <ok>

why wasn't Haidara on the bench today? He must have staked a claim for a place on the bench, following Thursdays game? I know both Perch and Anita came on, and more than likely deserve a place on the bench at least. But we didn't have one 'orthodox' full back on the bench. I realise one of Yanga-M'Biwa, Perch, or Anita could fill in at full back. To not have Simpson or Haidara on the bench, seems a bit strange to me.

As has been said. Santon get's caught out time and time again, with the Lambert goal seeming a certainty when we (Santon) turned the ball over in midfield. A bit of competition coming from the bench may help inspire the lad and his positional sense.
