    Re : Topic

Having seen all 4 of our centrebacks in action, who should be the first name on the team sheet?

    My vote goes to Mbiwa.
Having heard many of our number hype him up, and finally seeing him play,
I conclude that he boasts the best attributes of Colo and Saylor combined!
He reads the game well, tackles well, good in the air, composed on the ball, brave...

    What do you guys think?

Never seen Mbiwa play, how many times has he played for Newcastle so far?
I like Coloccini, not the best in the world no but I like him

I still really like Saylor, he really shores up the defence. Can't wait to see MYM and Taylor together at CB

It's hard to pick one out as centre back is a,so about the pairing and how they work together. Colo, Saylor and Mbiwa all have different styles (sorry not even going to mention Willo's 'style') which means they will have good/bad games against different opposition. For a long time, Colo has been my favourite defender, but he's unlikely to be here beyond May. At least Mbiwa looks a more than capable replacement, but that means we need another - especially with Saylor's injury problems. I'm going for Colo for now - might change my mind when I've seen Mbiwa play more games fir us.

With Obi on this one still Colo for me but he will be off. Saylor for his passion and understanding of the club comes second. when I see Mbiwa play a few games he may rival them but he's still milllions of light years better than Willo

stastically until taylor got injured because of that chelsea game and the refs decision to book a player for a last man challenge.... wait it wa over a year ago ill stop

Stastically taylor was the best defender in the PL back then
HE is the one of the best CD anyway. Then add his loyal and unlimited support and passion for NUFC. and you get our best CD and one of the best in the PL still. Colo is good. not as good as saylor imo

I've always said Saylor is our best CB and for now i'll stick with that. Mbiwa has looked very impressive but still early days yet so i'm not going to pick him just yet but i believe over time he will grow into our best CB and one of the best in the league.

I do admit, that what we've seen from Mbiwa is too small a sample size to determine if he's the best we have already.

But some of us have heard people who watch Ligue 1 hyping him up, saying that despite us seeing Gouffran and Sissoko and impressed with them, the one that they thought was the best signing was Mbiwa!
We of course for those who had never seen Mbiwa play, would've thought, you can't be serious can you?
But then yesterday he really showed me that he's the real deal.. The complete package. Metalist aren't pushovers mind you, they did top their Europa League group.

Over the next few games, I do hope Mbiwa gets his chance, although I wouldn't mind seeing Saylor and Colo as well. I just feel that the performance we saw against Metalist is far too unlikely to be a one-off, and we shall see for ourselves in the near future whether Mbiwa will be the best signing in January for us.

Whatever the case, I'm still delighted that we now have 3 really really good centrebacks and a lousy fourth

Saylor. The fact that we've started winning since he came back has been overlooked due to the new signings

Well this is only going to go one way, its clearly Willo.

Seriously though, i die a little inside every time I see him in the starting line-up

Voted for Saylor as l feel we will lose Colo in the summer. Mbiwa looks very promising and if he can gel with Saylor and form a good understanding with him, then it bodes really well for the future. Would still like to see another CB of quality to act as a viable cover for when the inevitable injury puts Saylor out of action. Willo may have to do, but l really think we should have better available.

I look at steven taylor and think.

Right now hes back in the line up the music at the start of the match will be cracking, the atmosphere, tempo and attitude will be as it should be. And still steven taylor will smile when he gets chopped in 2 as long as the toon win.

Otherwise he will have a face like a smacked arse.

Thats why he is Newcastle Centre back N01, he keeps the team in order and does his utmost best. The best geordie ambassador we have at the club atm.

Just like to ask , anyone starting to think what my initial belief that Mbiwa just might be our best centreback is going to become a fact soon?
