Pochettino was asked about a Spanish/Argentinean revolution today. He said... "No, no no." - Commented on a need for ability over nationality. Club will identify best players. He doesn't care what country they are from.
Mauricio had some interesting things to say about Gazzaniga when asked if we would consider putting him out on loan. He said that he is a young keeper with a lot to learn and requires polishing, but he has a place at Southampton where he will learn our philosophy. He says loaning him out may result in him picking up bad habits when he needs to stay here and pick up good habits. I have always felt that Saints are not hugely in favour of loans and suspect that you are on your way out once you're loaned. Although a loan may of course also give you a chance to shine.
Just had the following message from a friend reporting on Spamish football at th moment: Odd I agree. Just thought I'd share it here.
I meant recently. Fans always seem to suggest sending youngsters out, but rarely happens. The seriously good ones are used in cup games at least or are brought into the first squad...may be all part of this idea that we want them to play the Southampton Way and not to learn bad habits.
I always thought that Puncheon was very good in his first season at Saints but this season I think he has been out best player by a country mile. In some of the home matchs I've seen, he has been sensational. In the first few games, he was the only player who seemed to have adapted to the PL. I really hope we keep him.
There is absolutely no hurry about this. Punch cannot go anywhere until the summer. Since he wasn't sold in the window his value to the club as an asset is now zero since his contract will be out then. He will either sign any new contract offered or decide to sign for one of the many clubs who might be interested for a big payday. There is the whole summer to conclude this and we will know our fate by then. I can't see any reason that either party would want to resolve anything at this stage except that the club might indicate that they will be making an offer once there is certainty about our survival in the EPL.
