  1. It is an aspect of this Forum that pisses me off - that individuals and groups can falsify and inflate their own reps and then drop on other users on a whim. I fell foul of either a Mouser or Leeds fan a while back and all of a sudden I was waving more red flags than a champion matador!! Got to me at first, then took it as a badge of honour!! :smiley-finger007:

Anyone think we will be at a disadvantage if we qualify compared to Arsenal and Everton who won't have any European football after the return in Munich. Am hoping we win or draw on Thursday as I'd like us to really have a run at winning this competition, but there is no doubt IMO that it will harm our chances of CL football. Especially with a high profile tie against Inter if we get through.

I was thinking this last night, SD. I'd quite like to see the goons get right through to the semi's to be honest, just so they've got more games to play.

It's a difficult one. - We seem to be taking the EL pretty seriously, which obviously means we're fielding a very strong side more frequently. I can only see that as a negative too. (injuries etc)

But on the other hand it comes back to that topic of "Winning trophies".

winning the premiership is almost impossible at the moment, the CL will be too much for us (even with a lucky cup run like chelsea), which leaves 3 other trophies. - one of which (EL) we might not even be in next year, should we make the CL.

In some ways, the holy grail that is CL qualification is football's worst enemy for the clubs that don't fall into the "elite" category. you spend all season trying to qualify for it, but it cripples all of your domestic cup runs. You're not quite good enough to win your domestic league either, so you end up with a season of nothingness, but the ability to say "but we made the CL". - which is a competition that is extremely hard for a club like us to win, despite how we are progressing.

and the process starts again with the trophy cabinet remaining empty.

I've got to the point now where I'd like to see a trophy. there's been far too much snobbery over certain trophies in recent years, where you get laughed at if you take the capital one cup seriously. - It's totally ridiculous.

Not as much as Chelsea winning the EL! thats my horror! the chavlets would be unbearable...well, even more unbearable!

Inter have lost striker Milito for the season, seems to have rocked them, getting subsequently stuffed by Fiorentina 4-1. The team we played is unrecognisable bar Zanetti, Cambiaso and Cassano. Good side still, but not formidable imo.

Cambiaso was one of those players that always looked old but he's actually only 32, okay that's not exactly young for a footballer but he looked about 35 when he was in his mid twenties. I think it was partly that in his younger days he was still clinging to his ever thiniing hair.

Brad didn't let anyone down in the 1st game and pulled off a great save, however just for arguments sake, Lyons wonder goal could have been avoided.

When the cross came in, Lloris would most likely have come rushing off his line and possibly cleared it and Gallas headed the ball away from goal (into the danger area/blinded) when if walker had shouted "leave" it would have sailed wide.

Harsh? overly critical? possibly but there are such fine lines in games that these differences can make a huge difference.

  14. 999 / 1000 that shot would have ended up in Row ZZZ - so not sure that is a good example to pin a 'could have done better' argument on. Bales miss from 10 yards in front of an open goal perhaps.
And if we are looking at what-ifs, then it doesn't matter that he also scored 2 great free kicks.)

It doesn't matter if the shot would usually end up in row z, as a defender you shouldn't head the ball blindly into the danger area, thats just a basic rule of defending and gallas also done it later on in the game, but Walker also needs to learn how to shout "leave" more often, as a few times this season he has failed to communicate with his team mates and it has lead to goals scored or the opposition having a great chance.

  16. Don't get me wrong, Boss - not saying that our defence shouldn't improve - Walker more than most has cost us this year. I was just addressing the matter of that particular wonder-goal. Somethings you just cannot bargain for - and that was one of them in my mind.

Relayer I know I'm being overly critical! just I found it interesting that the lead up to the goal could have been avoided and the two players brad & gallas where involved, not "Blaming" them as such, just I personally would rather see Lloris & Dawson as I want to see a regular back four in the big games.

I definitely want to to win this trophy, and I definitely want Arsenal knocked out ASAP.

I remember last year certain people saying, I hope Chelsea get through to the semi-final so it'll tire them out. That worked out really well :steam: Right up there with Baldrick's finest plans :)

The good news for those who want us knocked out is that AVB is thinking of playing Brad. Expect to see our high line go the way of the Maginot line if that happens.
