Was just thinking about my own family and their individual sporting allegiances and how they came about. That in turn got me to wondering about the families of the other posters on our forum and how things pan out with them......so lll start with my mob.

Hubby ....... born and bred Mancunian on the Red side and has always supported them. As a younger man and when still living local he saw all the greats play, Best, Charlton, Law and had enough free time and money to follow them in Europe.

Eldest son..... More of a Rugby fan, but does like his footy. Supports Chelsea... Yeah l know..... This stems from his time at University in London. He took a part-time job in a wineshop to help supplement his meagre income, which just happened to be a favourite with lots of the Chelsea players, particularly Vialli, who he got to know quite well. He was given hospitality tickets by John Luca one Christmas and was hooked. He now lives and works in Germany and gets to see Dortmund regularly.

Both daughters wouldn't give you tuppence for football....... One is horse mad and the other loves ice -hockey, again stemming from University days. Son in law supports the Spuds.

Youngest son is a cricket nut and supports Man Utd like his Dad.

Gets quite interesting in our household at times, just wish the football would be kinder to me sometimes. Lol
How about you guys and your nearest and dearest ?

Was gonna report him to the police for child abuse. 11 is years I had to put up with all things red and white.
Towards the end I loved going into the Roker programme shop asking for NUFC programmes.

Hmmmm.... Now this will take some guessing! I love guessing! Indestructible? He seems to have a similar sense of humour and is on here more than most, and what's more he's a relative newbie with lots of REP... Hmmmmm

Glad you saw the light ACS.

My grandad supported Wolverhampton Wanderers, and the year he died Wolves were promoted to the premier league... Whether it's a shame or poetic depends on your point of view! He was born and raised around that area, and lived and worked in Stourbridge for a long time.

My dad despite being taken to countless Wolves games as a youngster supports Birmingham City, for reasons I don't understand (my uncle, even crazier perhaps, supports flipping Liverpool because he went to some two bit Uni there)... Anyway, they moved to the Isle of Man, my dad grew up married a woman who loves horses :emoticon-0113-sleep and had my brother and I. My brother supports Man Utd because he's a vicious little git who has a win at all cost mentality (although he uses the fact our maternal grandmother supports Man Utd... She went to a Uni near there, though), and I support Newcastle.

The legend of my shackles to this dead weight <wah> is equally tall and mysterious. Some people I tell are given the line that when we moved back to England, North Yorkshire, I was in a location where Leeds, Boro and Newcastle were practically equidistant (and while Darlo was closer, I was just sane enough to avoid that fate), and I chose Newcastle because the other two are ****holes and I always loved going to the Metrocentre and visiting the lights in Newcastle at Christmas time...
To some people I tell the tale of watching the football scores at the weekend aged 4, in the Isle of Man, and seeing how much my dad seemed to be into it, decided the next team to come up on screen to have won a match would be my team for life.
And to Obi I frequent the saga of pre-school Badger kidnap, and ultimate rescue by Toon Ultras...

To be frankly honest, I have no idea which one is correct... I just know I wish my dad was Spanish and we'd been watching La Liga scores, or we'd moved to Spain when I was young, because I've made a hideous, hideous error... But knowing my luck I'd have ended up with stinky Gimnastic... Yuck :emoticon-0119-puke:

When we moved from Newcastle to the West Midlands, all my new mates supported Wolves! My Mam lives in Amblecote, just outside Stourbridge, small world eh Gandalf.

I'm born and bred in Bishop Auckland and so unless you follow non-league, it was always going to be Newcastle, Sunderland or Boro...My parents met at Newcastle Uni and lived there for a good 10 years (with a few in North West Africa in between) before moving to Bishop so I guess that's why I follow the Toon. Mam is from Northern Ireland and used to be a Manure fan before moving over this way - she arrived in Newcastle the year Sunderland won the cup so I'm lucky she didn't jump on THAT bandwaggon. Dad is a fairweather fan who prefers rugby but Mam is almost as obsessed as I am...Niece got her first Toon strip aged 2 months and will be forced, kicking and screaming, into supporting us no matter what!

All my NI family support Man Utd., when I've asked why, it seems to be purely the George Best connection.

My family are black and white but I do have a cousin who supports the unwashed.
Husband family are Sheffield Wednesday and Barnsley fans.
