39 points. We stay up but finish 16th. Would love to be more optimistic, but I don't think we'll surge past that many clubs in truth, although our squad is deeper now. Injuries and shock results always around the corner, which is why we needed a better start!

Maybe, but we're coming up against a number of the teams around us, and we have a very poor record against such teams this season, especially away from home... And guess what, we are Away at QPR and West Ham, Wigan and home against Liverpool, Stoke and Arsenal, games we also usually get nothing from (albeit we've been spoiled in recent seasons with a win here and there). We also have to travel to Swansea and Citeh, two teams that we're going to be underdogs against to say the least. Oh, and I've put us to win against our bogey team, the Baggies!

Our "upturn in form" has actually propelled us nowhere, just kept us relative to other teams also struggling. It's going to take results against the weaker teams before I'm wearing my optimistic hat again (we still almost lost 2 points at Villa for crying out loud). 53 points-50 points historically gives you 8th place in the league. If we get anywhere near that figure, I'll be perfectly willing to wear nothing but a thong with Pardew's face on it to the last home game. Far from being out of the woods as I see it.

 

Evening Geordies. You seem confident of beating us on Sunday. I think there will be 1 goal in it either way or a draw. We've sold out our allocation so there will a lot of Saints fans making the long journey north. I would say we would create a great atmosphere but as we are going to be so far away from the pitch I'm not so sure!
