The egg came first. Nobody ever said it had to be the chicken egg...

Unless it was downhill I would say the chicken because eggs do not have legs.

    Rumours for Mercedes:

    - New Cooling System
    - Refinement of the suspension system
    - New exhausts Renault style
    - New floor
    - New diffuser
    - Flexible front wing Red Bull-style

None of this has been officially confirmed, and most of it is unreliable, but if there is any truth in this, Nico Rosberg for pole?

I think an egg would role faster than a chicken could run though. All depends on the gradient of the slope I suppose.

Nobody can introduce that many updates at one GP. If they try they'll waste all of Friday and the rest of their weekend will be compromised. If they have updates for all of those things I imagine they'll introduce the ones they feel are most critical this weekend.

No blowing of exhaust gases this weekend, but at the moment that's just a rumour. Someone who works for McLaren tweeted it and said it will be interesting to see quali after a ban on blown exhausts. Since then, he deleted the tweet.

    There's also this: http://bit.ly/ikoTmy

If this rumour turns out to be true:

    - Red Bull will be at the biggest disadvantage
    - Ferrari wasted time developing it
    - HRT will have the most to gain
    - Qualifying could be very close

Thanks Jose - early scoop again it appears.

Why has this directive been introduced?

With everything else in Red Bull's armoury why will they be at a bigger disadvantage than Renault?

    Well done José.

This subject demands a thread of its own right now!

This could be very interesting if it is true which I hope it is because I am bored with the Red Bull taking pole whenever they feel like it.

Maybe it is to do with cutting costs/green issue with the extra fuel used to feed exhaust gases over the diffuser continuously, or to try and cap the cost of developing it and perhaps doing it in other areas of the car.

Fancy starting a new thread with that link?

Or can a mod split this whole discussion from Jose's 4:47pm post and make a new thread? Merge sea-man's thread into it.

I agree. This could be the biggest story for quite some time and has implications for the rest of the season, not just Barcelona.

It's seems to have gone under the radar after the FIA's latest bombshell, but Pirelli are bringing a harder compound to Spain. I don't think it's a fifth compound, just a toughened version of the current hard. It's more durable and slower, which means there'll be over a second between the prime and option this weekend. Couple that with the ban on exhaust overrunning, and I think we'll see more of the top drivers needing to burn a set of options in Q1.

I'm even more curious about the improvement Lotus make, they say that they're bringing a new blown diffuser, with new engine mapping to suit it, so now with the directive, does that render the whole thing useless? Also, apparently they are targetting KERS on their car next season, according to Gascoyne, so that'll be interesting.

Jose you seem the man to ask if a question regards Ferrari:

Where Ferrari planing any updates that would now have to be re-thought due to the blown diffuser news?

Williams and Lotus will be miffed, as will McLaren if they where planing to revamp their system as I read the other day.
